Updating my posts for UK viewers
#1
IMGUR.COM is (was!) a 'cloud' where you could store your pictures/images and LINK them to forums .. and Social Media platforms like Facebook. I have been using this storage area for many years, and all my images in this forum are in this 'cloud'.

But now, IMGUR have decided that the UK can no longer have access to view any of these images. If you live in the UK and click this LINK below (which takes you to my Thread on AUDIO.COM) you will see how IMGUR have managed to destroy all my hard work over many years, as without those images the topics are meaningless.

If you are not in the UK, then the above topic will read as it should.

So having spent many hours changing my DEMO LINKS from AUDIO COM to BOX as they were preventing me from having access to my own account (because I wouldn't pay them the fee they were demanding to use their services), I now have a similar task to do for all the images I have scattered throughout the forum.

I have already dealt with one topic .. the one about When The Saints Go Marching In (inspired by Chris).
So clicking on the below you will be able to read the whole topic, even if you live in the UK, as I have moved all the images to Chello's own storage area.

Bear with me, and I shall get all the others done too.

So what is the story behind Imgur's decision to block UK users from accessing their platform, and as a consequence causing problems for many Forums and Social Media sites?

Report by the BBC
Image-hosting platform Imgur has blocked people in the UK from accessing its content.

Imgur is used by millions to make and share images such as memes across the web, particularly on Reddit and in online forums. But UK users trying to access Imgur on Tuesday were met with an error message saying "content not available in your region" - with Imgur content shared on other websites also no longer showing.

The UK's data watchdog, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), said it recently notified the platform's parent company, MediaLab AI, of plans to fine Imgur after probing its approach to age checks and use of children's personal data.

The BBC has approached MediaLab AI for comment.

A help article on Imgur's US website, seen by the BBC, states that "from September 30, 2025, access to Imgur from the United Kingdom is no longer available". "UK users will not be able to log in, view content, or upload images. Imgur content embedded on third-party sites will not display for UK users."

The ICO launched its investigation into Imgur in March - saying it would probe whether the companies were complying with both the UK's data protection laws, and the children's code. These require platforms to take steps to protect children using online services in the UK, including minimising the amount of the data they collect from them. A document published by the ICO, external alongside the launch of its investigation stated that Imgur did not ask visitors to declare their age when setting up an account. It said on Tuesday it had reached initial findings in its investigation and, on 10 September, issued MediaLab with a notice of intent to impose a fine.

"Our findings are provisional and the ICO will carefully consider any representations from MediaLab before taking a final decision whether to issue a monetary penalty," said Tim Capel, an interim executive director at the ICO. "We have been clear that exiting the UK does not allow an organisation to avoid responsibility for any prior infringement of data protection law, and our investigation remains ongoing."

The watchdog would not elaborate on what its findings were, nor the details of the potential fine, when asked by the BBC.

Note:  All done in this section, apart from Audio.com. I am leaving this for now as an example of how Imgur have ruined everything for UK viewers (they say about 1.6 million of them) by preventing them from having access to their accounts, and preventing them from even seeing the images in posts .. which of course makes reading the posts impossible. How mean is that?

.. so I have replaced the video with another one.

Note:  All  my posts have now been upgraded by putting those IMGUR images directly into Chello's storage in the Forum. UK viewers will now be able to see all  the images associated with my explanations .. which I hope some of you will find useful.

So no need to come back to this Thread to check how I am doing.

Hugh

PS. There is just the one topic I haven't been able to bring up to date, and that is the one on audio.com. I did find a few of the images I had used, and if I find any more I will put them in.
