Thanks for the run down Chello, Given the feedback there seems to be a lot of issues that need to be sorted.

Yes; these issues could have been avoided with better quality control.

The mixing is sometimes a bit worse than Yamaha at its worst, but they have a long way to go to reach Deebach when it comes to this and faulty programming.

Honestly, this package would not have received my recommendation if it weren't for all the good styles and pads, which are really worth the money alone.

The sounds are generally very disappointing, which is almost a bit strange, because the package is primarily marketed for its sounds.

Qui has a collaboration with Global Sound, but it will be up to him whether he wants to address my issues with Global Sound or not.

I have found 13 styles where one sound is missing in one track, and in one style two sounds are missing.
This is probably because the sound links to an earlier version, where the placement was different.

Great review and like you have found many issues, given this is another update i feel this is unacceptable that this hasnt been picked up.
There are some great sounds but some really poorly mixed ones.
Its focused on more modern styles EDM so wont appeal to the older generation.
I think you have been generous in your review, again when i find something i like all is forgiven, but the truth is how is this getting updated without someone addressing the issues you have found.

You and I are probably quite equally critical of certain things, and can clearly state our opinions if necessary.
Your assessments support mine, because we think and act alike.



It is incredible and unacceptable that I am the only one giving constructive criticism, when there is such extensive defective work done with a product that is presented as the best on the market.
Fortunately for Global Sound, the package contains many very good styles and exceptionally good pads - otherwise I would have advised anyone not to buy it.

Those who are looking for something that is flawless and are not able to make the necessary edits themselves should stay away from Global Sound, because quality control is a foreign word.

Hopefully the shortcomings will be corrected and the necessary quality control imposed on all subsequent updates..?

I have already discovered even more shortcomings, which will be published continuously, and I still have pads to test.

We would all benefit from these shortcomings being corrected, because Global Sound is one of the very few manufacturers on the market who can truly create something that stands above all else.

I have found 9 styles where one track (in one case two) is muted.
Some might say this is a minor thing, which it is, but I'm including it anyway, because this is a case of lack of quality control.


They are:

I have tested a lot of the pads from all folders.

General for drums/perc:
The pads have a crazy high sound level; in fact so high that there is severe distortion if you put these into an internal style without FIRST adjusting the volume far down.

If you do this via a PA system, you risk blowing up the speakers.
With a headset you risk hearing damage in addition.

Many of the drum and perc pads sound as if they were sampled from Mp3 instead of Wave, which results in a lack of resolution and a feeling of overmodulation with an overfocus on high frequencies.

All other categories of pads suffer from the same thing - they have an output level that is far too high.

Only a few of the pads I have tried are really good, and with the correct level.

FINAL CONCLUSION

I was prepared for the package to have a different content than what I prefer with mixing techniques that I don't have a taste for.

In this regard, I was actually pleasantly surprised, because many styles are really well put together.

What I wasn't prepared for was the discovery of a number of programming errors, which could have been avoided with effective quality control.

The drum kits have now been fully tested, and these do not impress me (unfortunately), because they are generally poorly mixed with overfocus on certain elements (extremely high level), and I have also not found ambience on any of them, which limits the scope of my use.

The vast majority of drum kits are for the EDM genre, and other genres such as pop, funk, jazz and rock have a very limited number of sets.

The pads have also been fully tested, and this was a different experience than the one I first got:
They generally have an extremely high output level, and drums/perc have an overfocus on high frequencies.
There are only a few very good ones, which also have a normal output level.
Very disappointing.

The sounds have also been completely reviewed, and these are better than my first impression, and several are actually very good.
Slightly varying levels here too, but well within what I accept.

I have said before that everything is neatly organized, but here I have to arrest myself, because sounds are generally chaotically organized, with all kinds of sounds in a folder that does not show which group the sounds belong to.

This makes edits with these sounds unnecessarily difficult and time-consuming, and all sounds should have been categorized, which would also give a professional impression in line with how the best do this.

I fully understand that this will entail a colossal amount of extra work, but it will be worth it.


The sounds are probably the most important thing for many, and these are generally absolutely well made, while drum kits do not have the expected quality and do not cover all genres well enough.

So ultimately my conclusion is that this package contains many very good sounds and styles - many styles contain many shortcomings, but are still worth the investment.
