8. Changing key using the TRANSPOSE button.
The usual keychange one does when playing a song is to move it up a semitone.
Here is an example.
I am playing Crazy in the key of F .. so will be moving up to the key of F#.
Now there is no way I can actually play it in the key of F# .. so an alternative is to use the TRANSPOSE button on the keyboard and move it up +1.
To make this change sound ‘smooth’, in the bar before the change one needs to play the 7th chord that leads into the key you are moving to. This will be the fifth note of that scale. For example, G7 would lead into C; C7 would lead into F. So C#7 would lead into F#.
The notes for C#7 are C#, F, G# and B .. and that is the chord I have to play (once .. I think I can manage that!).
So the idea here is to reach the end of the song (playing it in F .. so there is an F chord at the end); then play a bar of C#7 .. and while that is playing take your left hand off the keys and press the TRANSPOSE +1.
The keyboard will continue playing your C#7 chord until you place your hand back and play another chord .. which will be F again, now raised a semitone by the TRANSPOSE of the keyboard .. and continue playing your song in F, as you did before.
Have a listen to how this has all worked out. It’s that 7th chord just before the key change that makes it all sound ‘right’.
I have repeated the DEMO so you can hear it twice and judge for yourself.

You can also do all this through a REGISTRATION MEMORY. When you ‘save’ what you have set up into a REGISTRATION MEMORY slot (ie. you press MEMORY and then press the slot where you want it to go) ..
.. it will SAVE a TRANSPOSE change as well.
Thing is, if you are using more than one Registration for your song you have to ‘transpose’ all of them. I am using four REGISTRATION slots for my song (in slots 1, 2, 3 and 4), so have to ‘transpose’ each of those into 5, 6, 7 and 8 so I can play the whole song a second time in the higher key.
Again, when you take your hand off to change from the first block of four to the second .. the keyboard will continue playing your C#7 chord until you place your hand back and play another chord. Which will be F again .. and continue playing the song in F as you did before. of four to the second .. the keyboard will continue playing your C#7 chord until you place your hand back and play another chord.

It's all about the music!
