THREAD RATING - MAYBE THE MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL

This feature, which appears at the top right of all threads, is one of the most important features that members can use to express their opinion about something.

In a relationship, Likes have limited value, because they only show whether something is liked or not.

When I look back at my areas, I can use Thread Ratings points to assess which of my styles or other things are particularly appreciated.

I am very positively surprised by how high the scores on my work are; for example, it is very difficult to achieve 4 to 5 stars, but I still have a lot of them.

Pretty good for an amateur..?

Chello,

I have done a Google Search for how these STARS on THREADS work in a MyBB forum (which ours is) and it has come up with this:

You click on the number of STARS you want to give to a Thread .. and that number of STARS is allocated to the thread.
Having done this once, you can't do it again to the same Thread.
And you can't give yourself STARS.

The next person that clicks on some STARS .. this happens ...

All the stars to date are added together .. and divided by the number of Members voting
This becomes the new 'Star Rating'.

Chello .. can you confirm that this is indeed how this feature works?

This maybe explains what has happened to the latest Thread I put up ..

Dixieland Medley with a BANJO playing in the STYLES
https://chellos-keyboard-players-club.co...the-STYLES
Just after I had posted this, I noticed that you (Chello) had given me a LIKE .. and I had 5 STARS. I wondered if it was you who had given me that. Whoever did, thanks, as that Thread involved a lot of research putting things up I thought Members would be interested in reading and listening to; and a lot of work explaining all the steps on how to COPY a PART from another STYLE into the one I was using; and then actually playing that Dixie Medley piece without a mistake took about 30 attempts. I was up until about 2am!

If you go and look at the number of STARS I now have .. its down to 3.
First vote .. 5 STARS (I had already seen that).
Second vote ..1 STAR (?).
5 + 1 = 6; divided by two people voting = 3 (?).
That has certainly taken the wind out of my sails; and together with only 3 LIKES it makes me wonder if anything put up in this Forum is appreciated by anyone other than Chello and the other Members who give posters a LIKE?

Chello .. you are always going on about giving people LIKES. Fikke has been going on about this too.

Hugh

PS. I have also clicked on 5 STARS for this Thread of yours .. so 5 + 5 = 10; divided by 2 = 5.
So your Rating should stay at 5 (for a bit?).
It's all about the music!

I can confirm that:

This is an unfortunate feature that I have no way of editing, but I have the following tips for using Stars on Threads in a way that gives a more fair result:

If a thread has a higher rating than you want to give, you should refrain from giving yours, because the total will then be lower.

Only give a rating if this is higher than the one already given.

I gave you 5 stars for your Dixieland Medley thread.
Personally, I think that all your work of this type deserves 5 stars, because you give a complete description that is understandable to everyone regardless of prior knowledge.

I prefer Rating anyway, because this shows the degree to which the content is liked, while Like does not do this.

Chello,

Until today, I had no idea that you could give STARS when there were already some stars up there. Perhaps I should rephrase that and say give a STAR RATING, as the last thing one would want to do is to is to give them one star thinking it would be added to those already there!

Your suggestion .. to only add in a STAR RATING if your rating is more than the one showing is very diplomatic. Thing is, with a forum like this we need to encourage people to join in and put things up, even if we do not always agree with what they have to say.

I shall certainly keep putting things up as I enjoy doing it. If I find something to do with music that interests me, why keep it to myself?

I think your comment in your SIGNATURE ...

I was aware of the star rating system and not really a fan.
The reason being something that the contributors all suffer that is ,lack of acknowledgement.
we have some great content and knowledgeable people but only a nucleolus read everything religiously.

So one poor score drops your star rating which is demoralising  for the author.

What i will say  other forums content are rubbish, usually complaints, or threads that are repetitive and meaningless.

for myself i thought a thread on style companies would hit a chord, as surely it would be nice to know what to buy and what not to ,value for money content but very little interest ?

I guess we do it for the love of music and not the acknowledgement.

I get a lot of in site from the people on here  13

I clicking on LIKE indicates to the writer that I have read the thread.

Other than that I can Reply/Add a comment.
