!!! YOUR SOUND STUDIO CAN BE A DEATH TRAP !!!

!!! YOUR SOUND STUDIO CAN BE A DEATH TRAP !!!

In light of the horrific fire that broke out in a bar in Switzerland, I feel obligated to warn musicians (especially) that their sound studio can be extremely flammable and produce deadly gases when certain materials such as Polyurethane-based acoustic dampening mats ignite.

I have conducted experiments myself, and it turns out that a small spark that normally goes out when it hits a surface, flares up when it hits a dampening mat, and within seconds you have an uncontrollable flame.

I also performed a test with contact adhesive that I smeared on a mat, and within minutes the mat began to melt with smoke and rising temperature, and it was almost impossible to stop the process before it caught fire.

Some of these mats are said to be treated with a fire retardant, but the ones I have are not.

Even if they had been treated with such a substance, the mats would still be able to self-ignite at temperatures above 250 degrees, and a fire like this would reach 600 degrees within seconds and begin to develop a number of very deadly gases (including hydrocyanic acid), and the fire would consume all oxygen, and if the fire suddenly gains access to more oxygen, it would become explosive, because the gases would ignite.

People who are in a room where such a fire is taking place will lose consciousness within 30 seconds and die within 2-3 minutes.

If they survive, they will suffer 3rd degree burns within seconds.

So my recommendation becomes very clear:
Get rid of all polyurethane-based acoustic damping mats BEFORE a catastrophic spark ignites them !!!

Instead, look for other solutions to your acoustic challenges.
