THE ULTIMATE WAY TO ADJUST EQ

I am now in the process of adjusting the EQ for my Kronos drum kits.
From the very beginning, I have been convinced that the only right way to do this is by adjusting with the Oscillator Equalizer, something our former member Anthour57 also pointed out.
He has more experience than anyone with work like this, and at the same time warned that this is a colossal work.
He's right about that.

I have checked my claim with professional articles, and it turns out that professional sound people follow the same procedure.

   

The semi-parametric equalizer has the option of adjusting bass, midrange and treble, and this is done with 4 rotating potentiometers.

The first regulates bass with up to +18dB (fixed, unknown Q-value and center frequency)
The second regulates the strength of number 3 by up to +18dB
The third regulates the range (center frequency) from 100Hz to 10kHz (freely variable, unknown Q-value)
The fourth regulates treble with up to +18dB (fixed, unknown Q-value and center frequency)
The Q value is very low; probably 0.5 - 1.0 to achieve the widest possible effect

I have tried to recreate the settings used on Kronos, and from experience it has been used +14 dB for all areas.
Lower value does not give full benefit, while higher sometimes gives a too sharp sound image.
+14 dB is ideal, as this value never gives too much.

So I have chosen to adjust with +14dB for all areas, while I have set the variable frequency to the highest possible; 10kHz.
This gives a maximized effect on details, without these being perceived as unnatural.

The same adjustments are made on each oscillator; 8 in total.
This is a lot of work, but the result is fantastic.


Post-testing shows that +14dB is a bit too much, and I have therefore reduced the boost to +10dB for the 1st and 4th potentiometer, while the 2nd potentiometer has been reduced to +5dB.

It is quite possible that these will have to be changed a bit after longer testing - these are only rough values, which will be able to give other results when all sounds are EQ optimized.
