Global Sounds Artist Edition 3.3 for PA5X
#1
I must say this Global Sounds 3.3 expansion library has me wanting to trade in my little SX900 for a PA5X. Global Sounds' voices, styles and pads sound awesome and Qui's sound additions are fantastic especially for the ambient genre. I will keep following these video demos from Global Sounds and Qui as new ones come out.

I'm not sure how many people buy arranger keyboards to play ambient/orchestral stuff but this is a category that interests me, especially playing live, as opposed to producing this type of stuff in a DAW. I briefly looked at the Kronos 3 but found no demos that demonstrate all the Karma presets it has. It appears PA5X would be the safer choice (though more expensive) if I were to get a Korg.

Absolutely agree.
Global Sound's production is the best I've heard from anyone, and they are lucky to have Qui Robinez on the team.
A lot of the Pa5X's success can be attributed to Qui Robinez and his ongoing work to show what it is capable of.

He has also been a great help in my work with the Pa5X.
I will very likely acquire the Global Sound Artist Edition.

Let us know how you like the expansion library if you get it. It seems like a worthwhile purchase with the additional sounds and style content to play around with.

I'll probably give a pretty comprehensive review of the expansion library and its contents.

A really good thing is that this is very easy to install, and it doesn't cost a fortune.

I just noticed on the Global Sounds website they now offer expansion packs for Yamaha arrangers, sounds only, not styles. Shoping web page is below, however no demos of them so far.

thanks guys for the nice comments about me.

To be honest, Chello, I am not sure that you will like that sound set, this is mainly because the styles and sounds are relying quite heavy on effects and things like loud compression and maximizers (even to much to my own liking). So if you are looking for that more natural sound then you have to modify a lot yourself, of course you have the skills to do that, but it's quite a lot of work because it has so much content.

What I do is that I select a style or sound, and then change it for the purpose of the song I want to play and then store that in the songbook.

So It's good value in my opinion, but then you know what you can expect.

I did two video's that are great for this topic. The first one is my personal indepth review of the 2.6 version last year. The second video is one of my own sounds that is added to the v3.3. version. So especally the first video gives a quite good overview of what you will get (v3.3 has a lot more content and is much more organised in categories now). The third video is a showcase of a lot of my sounds (mainly piano).

Hope this helps.

Many thanks for your honest comment about this sound set.

I actually expect to have to modify a lot of the content, but this is something I enjoy doing.

It will be educational to study the structure of the sounds of Global Sound, just like I have studied Korg's.

So I will probably buy it, but will pay close attention to what you have said, and try to give a fair review that is not too influenced by MY perception of sound, which is quite HiFi and effects-critical.

Thanks for the extra videos, which give me a better basis for assessment.
