CHOOSE A GOOD HEADSET AND SPEAKERS FOR YOUR ARRANGER/SYNTH !!!

This is especially important if you are editing something you want to share with others.

I have used different headsets and speakers over the years, but have probably always had better equipment than most, largely due to my work with speaker development.

In recent years I have used my own developed horns and subbass together with STAX headsets, and recently also Yamaha HS-5 active speakers.

I ALWAYS use the headset for basic edits, and ALWAYS check my work afterwards by listening through the horns and HS-5.

Why this practice ?

Because even the best headset does not give an absolutely correct picture of perspective and acoustics.

STAX is very much better than my beyerdynamic T70 especially in terms of perspective and acoustics, while the horns are far better than HS-5 in the same regard.

Never think that speaker sets like Tyros, Genos, PAas or cheap KRK are good enough, because they are not !

Yamaha HS-5 is my recommendation, while HS-7 and HS-8 are also recommended, but HS-5 is the preferred one due to the best midrange.

STAX is the ultimate recommended headset due to its unmatched frequency range, clean sound and large perspective, but there are many good models from brands such as AKG.

Chello. I agree with your quote above.
My earlier years when my ears were in the process of appreciating sound, did not realise at that time just how good the STAX performed.
The AKG offer excellent price value for the sound they provide.

I was lucky enough to get to try out STAX Lambda when they were launched almost 40 years ago, and have never completely forgotten the experience. which has contributed to making me very critical of headsets.

However - it is only recently that its real qualities have revealed themselves through daily edits for over 2 years with the same set.

Only this set can give a bit of the same sound image as my horns with a perspective that is NEVER perceived from the speakers, but creates an imaginary stage where the musicians are placed where they should be.

Even working with midi files gives this experience, and this never happened with other sets or regular speakers.

So when I now create styles from midi, I feel like I am creating real music, which is a new experience.
