(DANGEROUS) WORK TECHNIQUE

Over 30 years ago I had a job as a machine mechanic.
We produced a lot of different things with different machines.

We also produced furnace lids for the island's aluminum smelter, and this was a separate department with many employees.

All new employees had to go through this department to be tested.

The department had a group leader who was notorious for physically breaking workers with his crazy pace. He was a big man, over 150 kg.


Like everyone else, I had to sit down after a while, while he continued with another worker.

While I sat there, I studied his movements, and when it was my turn again, I did everything exactly as he did.

After a few days of training I was the first one who managed to keep up with his pace, until HE had to sit down - for the first time ever - he was completely exhausted.

Shortly after, I was removed from the department, while everyone else had to work there regularly due to perpetual time pressure, because these furnace lids took priority over everything else.


A few weeks later, the group leader did not show up for work, and no one could contact him.
They found him dead in his apartment, and he had died of a heart attack.
