DANGEROUS WORK

DANGEROUS WORK

I have had many jobs that I have not mentioned:
For 4 years I drove a truck at a forwarding warehouse, and part of the job consisted of lifting pallets of soft drinks and beer 4.5 meters up, then maneuvering them onto the floor in the wall's gate.

It was mostly only me who had the nerve to do this, because access was very difficult and the ground uneven.
In winter it was also slippery.

I was the only one who managed this without the pallets tipping over, which was very dangerous; imagine that the platform starts to swing more and more 4.5 meters above where you are sitting - then you have to have iron control over what you do (and don't do).

All the others experienced such accidents, and it is dangerous enough when several thousand glass bottles fall and hit the truck and the ground around you, because they explode due to the impact they are exposed to - the air becomes full of glass and iron projectiles.

And when they have fallen, many bottles remain unbroken, but these continuously explode for 30 minutes afterwards.
There is therefore a safety time of 30 minutes to be able to approach the scene of the accident to carry out clean-up.
All bottles must be destroyed.

As I said, I never had an accident with this operation, but it happened that I had a fit of rage because someone stood in my way, with the result that I braked suddenly and the entire contents of the pallet were strewn across the road and crushed.

I once drove the forks into the side of a parked van because it was in my way one too many times.
I then lifted the car up and dropped it several meters away.
It was quite battered, but the owner got no understanding from my superior, who was standing in the window and saw the whole incident.
