YOUR MUSICAL IQ QUOTIENT
This quotient is largely determined already at your birth, and many believe that this is a fixed factor - which is impossible to change.
What Influence has your musical IQ quotient in your musical life?
I will try to illustrate this by creating a classification:
Group1:
People in this group have a particularly low musical IQ quotient, and completely lack the ability to perceive harmonies correct, in addition to that they are not able to sense the stability of a rhythm.
These would normally never learn to play an instrument on its own; but if they get a good teacher, they can with notes mastering this to some extent.
Group2:
These have a "normal" musical IQ, and has a certain ability to perceive harmonies and rhythm. Some of these will be able to learn to play on their own, but their performances depend entirely on the sheets. If the sheets contains errors, they will often not understand this. Everything new has to be learned through the sheets, and some have a certain ability to compose their own music.
Group3:
These have a higher musical IQ than normal, and learns to play one or more instruments on their own. They do not necessarily need sheets; they can learn to play new melodies without and playing by memory. A distinctly ability to understand harmonies through intuition and ability to play unfamiliar melodies directly with other musicians is also typical. Composing is frequent in this group, plus a clear mastery of improvisation.
Group4:
Very few people have what is called "perfect pitch"; an ability to understand complex harmonies - without having learned something from others.
These can compose complex music pieces, and play it without sheets - by their memory, which is "photographic".
Probably all the old masters had this ability; they were musical geniuses.
Therefore, we have classical music - it will always be in a separate class, and constitute a basis to educate exceptional talents.
I am of the firm opinion that we (some of us) can improve our ability to understand music through intuition.
When I, for example, is working to create styles from MIDI, I must constantly analyze chords and harmonies,
to determine whether it is correct - no program can do this 100% correct.
This process helps to further develop my musicality, and the proof I get when I listen on earlier work I have done - I notice that I can do this better now, plus I perceive harmonic variations faster than before.
As it says: Practice makes perfect!
