You Are My Sunshine .. making good use of Chris's suggested STYLE for this piece.

Looking through CHRIS’S TYROS 4 AREA, CHRIS’S SIMPLE SONG SHEETS WITH YAMAHA STYLES ...

https://chellos-keyboard-players-club.co...AHA-STYLES
... Chris’s LARGE SHEETS as he calls them (makes them ‘easier to read’) have a suggested STYLE to go with the music, one that you can download and try in your keyboard.

Having looked at some of these, one in particular caught my attention .. You Are My Sunshine.

When I was about 7 or 8 years old, one of the Matrons at Mbeya school on the border of Tanganyika and Rhodesia (as these countries were then called) used to play music to us during our afternoon ‘siesta’ .. 78rpm records. One of them was You Are My Sunshine
I have done a Google Search and reckon this was the record she played to us.

1st recording of You Are My Sunshine - Pine Ridge Boys (1939)

Armed with the downloaded Music Sheet and STYLE from Chris, I decided to have a go at playing this song on my Tyros 4.

All I can say is .. thanks Chris for the inspiration to have a go at playing this song.
The STYLE you gave us comes in when the tune is played second time round .. and the way that ‘rhythmic piano’ plays on the ‘off beat’ really knocks my socks off!
I also decided to insert an ‘INTERLUDE’ into the song, and have done this using INTRO III from Country Shuffle in COUNTRY.

(I’m sure you were expecting this!)

Adding the ‘harmony’ to the piece.
I did this by Multitracking using the Audio Recorder.
Click the below to read the topic on this ...

https://chellos-keyboard-players-club.co...O-RECORDER
... which is a bit involved, so here below is a brief reminder of the steps to do this.

First, I recorded You Are My Sunshine without any harmony.
This has ended up as an MP3 track.
Click the below to listen.
You can download this file if you want to have a go at what follows.

https://app.box.com/s/szmlj0nartuwkx12piarf06azvnb3rw3
Load the MP3 track into the AUDIO RECORDER/PLAYER. If you press the PLAY/PAUSE arrow you can listen to it.

Next, press the REC button. Your keyboard will say “Hey .. you can’t record over an existing MP3 track!
Do you want to convert this to a Multi Track file?”.

Say YES. This will now be converted to a .aup file.

Press the OK and the MULTI  TRACK RECORDER is set up ready for you to go ahead and record over the top of the MP3 file you started with.

But ... (take a good look at the below!)

By ‘default’, the RECORDING MODE is set to NORMAL RECORDING.
‘Normal Recording’ means recording without being able to hear the track that is already there. That’s not much use! You have to be able to hear the recording in order to play something over the top of it! So you have to change that by clicking on REC MODE. A ‘drop down’ box appears and you have to move the selection down to NORMAL REC (PLUS PLAYBACK).

Select that. Then press the EXIT key.

That’s better!

We now have to set up a VOICE in R1 to use for our recording.

I have chosen Steel Guitar in Guitar, on Page 1, Volume 80.

At this point you can listen to what you had recorded, and ‘play along’ with it. So you must have ‘in your head’ what you are going to play. I am going to play a harmony above the melody .. more or less what the Pine Ridge Boys sang in 1939 (listen to their video at the beginning of this topic).

The below is what I shall be playing.

https://app.box.com/s/0vmxul1s0becfm1pxb1wh1s490rrw92g
Unlike recording a MULTI PAD, you can hear the track you are working with, so I can wait until I know the Trombone is going to play before coming in with the above; and come in again when the Concert Guitar plays. Obviously, you hear the melody as well as the harmony you are playing.

Pressing the PLAY allows you to practice this as much as you like, because nothing is being RECORDED until you press the REC button.

When you are ready to do the recording ‘live’, press the REC .. and this time you are recording it for real. Not to worry if you make a mistake! There is an UNDO button on the screen, and if you press that you will be taken back to do it again. And don’t forget to press the STOP button when the playback reaches the end (but don’t be too hasty or you’ll ‘chop off’ the end of the recording!).

What you now have are two separate recorded tracks .. the original MP3, and the ‘harmony track’ you have added. These have to be put together into one MP3 .. so press the MIXDOWN button.

Press FILE NAME to give your final MP3 a NAME .. and you can change where you want it SAVED (SAVE TO). I don’t recommend the Memory Stick as that is too slow and you will get hang-ups.

Then press START. When it has finished, go look for the file in the place where you wanted it SAVED.

The result of doing all this is below (and you have already listened to it anyway .. above).
