I remember the days when 'quality' recordings could only be done in a recording studio. To record the organ I had, I would have had to transport it to Birmingham to a recording studio and pay so much per hour for them to do it .. which would have cost an arm and a leg. And of course all recordings in those days were done on 'tape'. Nowadays, we don't even need any recording equipment to record our keyboards as our keyboards record directly to WAV or MP3 in FULL STEREO. And the recordings sound AMAZING!
If you play in a band or an orchestra, then you would still need a recording engineer to set up the microphones and 'balance' the sound to get a good quality STEREO recording. And I remember the days when 'Top of the Pops' on the BBC used the original recordings made in a recording studio and the band appearing had to do their best to 'mime' the song they had recorded.
All this was brought back to me when I found this recording of Freddie Starr, which I hope you enjoy watching as much as I did!
