VCE Files Tyros 4
#1
I’ve collected quite a lot of vce files for the Tyros4, but it got me thinking having tested so, it got me thinking.

It’s better to create your own vce (edited voice files) because then you will know that they fit in with your own setup.

Agreed.
I tested loads of VCE files on my T4, but they all had one thing in common, that they were all quite useless.
The best thing is always to make them yourself, and this is very easy on the T4.

In any case, the best sounds are obtained by combining two or more sounds together, and preferably by making unusual combinations and adjusting the volume of each one - the best sounds I have made usually consist of a very muted second voice; for example an rock organ with a strongly muted synth bass voice.

Yes, this fits well with my perception; pianos are too flimsy, and need more fullness and depth.

Even the Pa5X needs a little boost for pianos; they are not as good as on Kronos, even though the same samples are used.

Kronos has a specially developed sound engine for pianos, and therefore Pa5X can never be exactly as good.
No keyboard can play pianos as well as Kronos.

They sound fine in lower octaves but when you play in higher octaves they don’t cut through the mix

As you only have the facility to change the Eq on hi or low frequencies for each sounds, in voice set you can change the frequencies for the low and high, im wondering if you change these to low mid and high mid, it will make any difference?

You can be sure that low mid and high mid will make ALL the difference, even if these only have a filter with a narrow frequency spectrum as a working area, which Yamaha and most others use.

Korg are professionals, because they use filters with a very wide frequency spectrum as a working area, which gives a far more desirable effect.

All professional software use such wide filters.
Yamaha hasn't realized this yet.

It is a common mistake to only adjust the bass and treble - this effectively kills the details.
I also made this mistake for many years.

A narrow filter that Yamaha uses requires great care in use; i.e. you should keep the adjustments within a few dB.
It can generally be said about EQ that the narrower the filter is, the more difficult it is to work with.

However, a small lift of the midrange with a narrow filter will usually have a positive effect, but it can also destroy the piano's sound, as pianos are particularly sensitive to differences in the midrange, and require a wider filter in this area to function optimally.
