Good afternoon all today Ive been experimenting with the P4EQ Exciter as an effect insert on style drum tracks.
It produces some interesting results.

This filter is extremely effective on drums and perc.
I find it works best for dance styles, and that the default setting gives too much effect.
It is well suited for bringing out details that are otherwise barely audible.

What ⚖Aripearlmusic said about using it for lead sounds gave me an idea:
What if I associate a little and think of certain drum elements as lead sounds ?
As thought, so done:
I played the dance style P-A-D-E without doing anything:
PADE without effects.mp3 (Size: 468.75 KB / Downloads: 74)
Then I increased its SFX by +18dB for both midrange and bass with Drum Editor:
PADE with drum editor sfx boost.mp3 (Size: 750 KB / Downloads: 79)
Finally I added P4EQ Exiter in SFX as an insert effect:
PADE with sfx and filter.mp3 (Size: 758.44 KB / Downloads: 65)
On the first demo it is impossible to hear that it says MUSIC, while the second one is clear, and the third one even clearer and more forward.
This effect is brilliant for SFX sounds !!!

It's always a good idea to understand what the effect does and in what cases you want to use it.
An Exciter 'enhances' the high frequencies through a process of analysing the input signal and adding overtones based on the fundamentals in that input signal. This is done through a process called harmonic distortion (maybe you know this term from older gear where it's sometimes a knob called THD which stands for total harmonic distortion).
So what you are doing is adding a little bit of controlled high end to the signal and this gives it that bright sparkle and is mostly used for adding some high to dull sounds.
So because it's based on distortion it's wise not to overuse the exciters in your mix, this way it destroys your signals and can cause problems for mastering your songs. But you can use it to spice up some of the sounds you are using, drums and guitars will benefit of it. Some dull lead or pad sounds can also be spiced up with the exciters.

Thank you very much for your technical explanation.
I am familiar with another THD, which is third harmonic distortion, one of the ugliest forms of distortion in audio.
It is fun to use total harmonic distortion to achieve a positive result, but I prefer to limit its use to SFX effects, where it can really bring out sounds that are barely audible.
The trick is not to overdo it.
