Tyros 4 Concert Grand Eq Edits
#1
Good Morning All.

So I have experiemnted more with the use of dsp effects these are my findings.

Firstly as mentioned any changes you make to parameters within a dsp effect have to be stored to one of the 10 Dsp User Slots.

I had previously thought that you could maybe adjust the parameters within Voice Set unless Im doinig something wrong, but you can only select one of the dsp presets be it one supplied or a user effect.

As far as I can see there is no way of loading new user dsp effects to the user slots.

So when It comes to adjusting the Low And Hi EQ frequencies of voices, this can only be done within voice set and stored as a custom VCE file.

Anyhow for Graham to test on his DGX here Concert Grand Files which I have edited the EQ.

Let me know what you think.

GrandEQ sounds fine on my DGX-670. All 4 samples show the same settings ?
I was expecting .VCE's but the .nlv worked OK.

Changes...I followed Yamaha lead by replacing the Reverb 60 to zero and adding the same value 60 into DSP Reverb.

The voices are the same but with different frequencies boosted. If you go into voice set and Eq you will see what frequencies have been boosted.

What are the benefits of using reverb as a DSP efffect as opposed to using the global reverb ?

Re EQ. Thank you for more input settings, I will look at it latter.

What are the benefits of using reverb as a DSP efffect as opposed to using the global reverb ?

I don't know the answer to that, but yamaha mostly use DSP as its supposed to sound better ?.
Chello will possibly reply here !.

Graham
Thanks for passing the stick on to me.

I have the answer:
If you use DSP effects globally, ALL tracks are affected equally, which can create very unfortunate (and incorrect) effects.

Using DSP effects locally is ALWAYS the best solution.

Thanks for the confirmation. I’m guessing it makes it easier for re using the same sounds.

Incidentally if you adjust the reverb settings in the DSP when this is saved as a registration are they stored in the registration.

Yes, these are only saved in the RGT file, and not in the style itself.

Many slightly deeper edits can only be saved as RGT, and this is precisely the reason why I shy away from Yamaha; an RGT is only useful for the model it is made for.

The only exception I know of is Tyros5.
