Why use the direct set / folder

I know every Korg Owner has their own workflow. 

But I now use a direct folder for all my songbook entries, styles and set lists.

Why you may ask.

Think about it songbook is basically a bookmarking system much the same as Yamaha registrations where in order for everything to function everything linked to a song book entry must be kept in the same place.

Why use and external songbook and set list.

As you collect styles it’s very easy for the user banks to fill up and finding yourself needing more space for styles.

If you’ve created a songbook entry that has a style in a user bank and then you find a new set of styles where do the new styles go when you load them?

Yes into the user banks unless you select otherwise.

If a style from a user bank gets used by a songbook entry and you then load a new style set the songbook entry won’t work as the style is no longer there.

This is the reason that I use the direct set / folder for all my songbook entries and styles that are associated with that entry.

If I find a style that I intend to use for a song I wish to play I copy it to a direct set

Then when I create my songbook entry / set list they are assigned to the direct set as an external songbook or setlist.

This was the user banks are kept free for auditioning new styles or content.

I can also use different direct sets for different setlists. But everything linked to to external songbook entry is tied to the direct set.

I use exactly the same system - I use one SD card as you use Direct folder.
The second SD card I only use for installation.

This way it means you dont run of free style bank or keyboard set banks. Keeping user banks purely for auditing.

By using this method you could go to another keyboard as long as it’s the same model and everything remains in the same place. Just remembering if you have any user samples to copy them to the direct set also as they will also need to be loaded prior to using the set.

It’s a bit like the system of keeping registrations etc on usb on a tyros etc.

As everything is external it also makes it possible to share registrations or keyboard set with other users as you know everything is in the right place.

I also copy the global setting to the direct sets so all the style and keyboard categories are named the same as the factory ones.

 - Pa5X have dual SD card slots.
As you say, this system allows sharing everything with others who have the same model, and is very easy to maintain and expand.

Incidentally, there is one more reason why I do it this way:
Windows sets up the user to use the suggested folders for storage, which means that he loses everything if Windows crashes.

By forcing Windows to use user-defined folders, the contents will be protected against loss if Windows crashes.
It will be the same with the Pa5X's OS - if this crashes, the contents of the SD cards remain untouched.

I remember that my brother went to computer lessons for 2 years, but I was the one who taught him how to use file explorer.
