YAMAHA AND MIXING

YAMAHA AND MIXING

I've had many keyboards, including many from Yamaha (too many..?).

OTS worked very well on the PSR 9000 and earlier models.
The DGX models have been excellently mixed; both the first and the last.

When it comes to the Tyros series with its Mega voices, the Tyros1 was significantly worse mixed than previous models.
The Tyros4 was much worse, as were the S series models.
Tyros5 was terrible.

Genos1 topped all negatives as the worst I've tried.
So the following question is justified:
Is Genos2 even worse ?

I have had both Casio, Roland, Ketron and Korg, but none of these have been poorly mixed like Yamaha's models.

General Yamaha factory style balances are the OTS's are usually set too low in volume to balance properly with the selected style.
This is the reason I have my favourite RGT voices which when saved as RGT with the STY unticked can be used with any style of choice.

Graham
Thanks for your insightful comment.
This is exactly what the problem is - the styles have too high an output.

100 to 110 is too much for a Yamaha, while other manufacturers can do this without similar problems, because they have a much larger headroom.

All my Yamaha models (except the DGX) had to adjust the output down to 63 for all OTS to work satisfactory.
Your solution with RGT voices solves the problem effectively, and is something all Yamaha users should use.
