It’s A Juggling Act
#1
So today I thought I would try some new sounds that I wanted to audition.

As the title to this top says it’s a bit of a juggling act when you have a limited amount of space in which to load new sounds.

Hear how I go about it.

First and most importantly is to create a full backup of your Korg Pa700 (Ensure Factory Protect Is Off, Via Global Menu).  Using save, save all, new set fullbackup.set . When you get the option to select what you want to save ensure all the check boxes are ticked. This way all data including any existing sounds you have already installed will be saved to your backup set.

Next you need to delete any existing samples vid the Sound, Record, And delete option from the drop down menu.

It’s also worth deleting the sounds in the user sounds library.

Now we have a clean slate.

Why is this important because any sounds you already have installed will use what limited space you already have.

Next we need to select the set which we are going to load the new sounds from, for this step when I select one of the user sound banks I go one step further so I can see each individual sound.

Here you have to be a bit selective as space it limited.

When you have found a sound you wish to load do so, and place the select sound into one of the empty slots.

Now at this point you can either repeat the above steps or do what I do.

Rewind back to the steps where we created a full backup.

We are going to create a new set in my case call it newsounds1.set , the only difference here when you select what you want to save you only need to check the user sounds, and user samples option.

This way if you either run out of memory you have the option to go back to before you had any problem.

Now it sounds a bit long winded but if there is any errors in the sounds or you have run out of memory you will need to repeat the first steps where the all existing sounds were deleted.

The advantage here is that as you have created a backup with your new sounds you can now load the user banks, one other thing is if you already have users sounds in your initial back up that you want to add to you can now also add the sounds from your newly created newsounds1.set

Combining Sound Banks.

When combining any existing soundbanks with existing ones I repeat the steps where I delete all existing samples and user sounds.

Some sounds will take more space than others as I mentioned you need to think which are most important and that you are likely to use.

At this stage it’s best to load individual sounds from both your backup.set and newsounds1.set

Making sure as you do so to save all the combined sounds to a new set you can for example call it combined.set

As before if you encounter any problems you have something you have can fall back on the newly created Combined set.

You maybe asking why is it so time consuming.

Well as you create new sound banks either newsounds that you’ve auditioned or combined, you now have a library of user sounds that you can merge to create new combined banks.

Once you are happy with your combined bank you can now load this with all your keyboard sets etc and perform a new full backup this will be you new working set. Don’t forget when you are done to write protect the factory media.

Any how this is how I go about adding new sounds on my Korg Pa700
