PROPER SPEAKER CABLES - HOW GOOD DO THEY HAVE TO BE ?

Some (HiFi enthusiasts) spend a fortune on speaker cables.

Is this really necessary ?
NO.

For many years I used cheap lamp wire (0.75 mm2), and found that it quickly charred (burned up) by the current, plus it corroded (at the ends).

Later I tried relatively expensive cables made of OFC copper, and the same thing happened.

I have always used amplifiers of 100 W or more, and then a certain amount of current flows through the cables.

For the last 10 years I have used Van den Hul cables (2.5 mm2), which are silver-plated OFC copper.

These are also relatively expensive; 20 GBP per meter.

These cables are stable regardless of the amount of current - they do not char, and do not corrode, even after many years of hard use.

Many people talk about better sound with better cables, but I can't say I share this experience.

My purpose with good cables is primarily to ensure a stable connection, and I see no point in spending more money than I have spent.

So the solution is to use silver-plated cables, but these don't have to cost a fortune.
