Method of testing effects parameters

   


When I was 17-18 years old and bought my first accordion, an Excelsior Aida (picture shows piano keys, but I had button keys) I became curious about how many registers I could have.
The accordion had 5 reedblocks in both bass and treble, but only 13 registers in the treble.
I wanted to know how many registers were theoretically possible and developed this model:

   


The model illustrates the 5 reedblocks, where black indicates reedblocks not switched on, and blue reedblocks switched on.

It also reveals that it is theoretically possible to have 32 registers on an accordion that has 5 reedblocks.

When I dismantled the cover of the accordion, I got to see how the mechanism worked, and by moving the braces to each reedblock, I got completely different registers - I actually made 2 new braces, which I connected to 2 of the others.
This is a complex mechanical device that now became even more complex, which made the mechanism slow; But it worked.

I also created another model for 3 reedblocks, which shows that this gives 7 combinations:

   


I have used (and use) this for many tasks, including when I want to find out how effects work together.
I make a sheet, where I enter the different effects (3 at a time) in each "reedblock".
