Let’s Talk Overb

Here are my findings about some of the parameters with in Overb on the Korg Pa700

As you will be aware I’ve been learning more in depth about reverb how it works and the parameters within different reverb’s be it overb on the Korg or a plug in on a daw.

My observation regarding the Diffusion and Damping is they are in reverse.

Let’s look at the Damping parameter set to 100 which I would assume is 100% there is no effect but as you decrease the value towards 0 more damping is applied.

This appears to be the same with the Diffusion settings which also appear to be in reverse.

Incidentally Diffusion in some plugins is known as Density

Ive learned today that there are actually two pre delays within reverb just as there are early and late reflections there is early and late pre pre delay. 

Sometimes the late pre delay is linked to the room size depending on the reverb you are using.

I was a little confused where a distance parameter was mentioned. But have since found a reference manual for Kronos which lists what parameters are what in each of the effects. 

In the photo here are the parameters in the Overb effect.

My understanding is that Diffusion 1 and 2 are part of the early reflections together with size and pre delay.

These are to create the space you want to put your instruments in.
