LEFT SECTION VELOCITY SENSITIVITY

LEFT SECTION VELOCITY SENSITIVITY

Most synths and almost all arrangers lack this - do not confuse this with LEFT voice, which only affects one track, while what I mean affects ALL tracks in the rhythm section.

Arrangers that have a bit of this ability are the Tyros 4 which has 1 velocity sensitivity option, while the A-3000 has 3 velocity sensitivity options.

However, this is far from what is standard on OASYS and Kronos, which have full velocity sensitivity in the rhythm section; the same as in the right section.

In my opinion, this ability is absolutely necessary for a musician to be able to fully express themselves.

It is of course much more difficult (many would say) to play like this, but I would think that a skilled musician would insist on having the ability.

The Pa5X would have appeared infinitely better if it had had it.

Good point. I never thought of that. Not sure if this relates to your point, but the Genos 2 does have some kind of dynamic style control which might be triggered by how hard you play, but not sure. I would have to watch a demo video again to see what it does exactly.

I've actually never seen anyone talk about this, which is beyond strange..!

The Genos 2 and later SX models' Dynamics Style Control gives a similar result, but I think this works very differently; I've heard several examples where the dynamics have been modulated too heavily with heavy distortion and negative compression as a result.

This never happens with the OASYS and Kronos, no matter how hard you press the keys.

Dynamics Style Control also requires the use of compatible styles, and the settings cannot be saved - the latter has met with massive criticism.

OASYS and Kronos play EVERYTHING this way - regardless of origin.

I don't want to post inaccurate statements here, but I was watching a video last week where I thought the Yamaha demo person indicated the G2's dynamic style control works with all styles. But it is possible that it does not work with older style files.

Per Graham's other post, the Adaptive Style control on the the DGX-670 was brought up and that one requires specific style files made by Yamaha and labeled as Adaptive Style in the selection menu.
