Version A sounds the best - without a doubt.
Especially where pianos are concerned, an edit in Master FX effects will change the sound completely and effectively to the more realistic - acoustic effects; not EQ.

Thanks, I added the 7 band Eq as an insert effect on the piano. I was trying to make it sound less muddy.
I know I could have used the eq gain in mixer tuning, but thought I would try the method Qui used in one of his videos which uses the 7 band stereo Eq as an insert effect.

When listening to your demo I feel that you have removed a little bit to much of the low end, that is indeed hard to do, to decide which frequencies you want to cut. It These decisions are also affected by the frequency spectrum of your monitors and headphones.
In this case adding more low end and lowering the high end a little bit should do wonders for that second example

I mostly use headphones
I actually changed the preset at the top in the stereo Eq effect to wide mid, just to experiment how adjusting the parameters there affected the sound.

experimentation is a perfect way to learn, so perfect job trying what these things do.
another good way is to use a graphical analyzer, for instance a visual EQ on your computer, then you can see instantly which frequencies are effected by your choice. I'm using these techniques also in my brian eno demo for instance, that sound is a really hard sound to equalize correctly, due to the moving resonance elements in the pad sound. So my approach then is to route that sound through my daw and can instantly see which frequencies needs to be modified because it gives me the exact values of the frequencies where the high energie points are in that spectrum. It's really handy, but it require some basic knowledge about EQ'ing to understand what for kind of adjustments you need.

I was thinking even though you can only use one insert effect for the lower and upper sounds via the mixer tuning screen.
Rewind to your sound design tutorial when you applied an insert effect to the jarre sound whilst in sound mode. Once this sound has been saved with an active insert effect.
Can you still add another insert effect if you select the now edited sound as you upper 1 sound.
In theory does this mean you can actually have two insert effects assigned ?

it's even better, you can add up till three insert effects per channel.
And if you are really adventurous then it's even possible to switch the master FX section to an insert FX section for a channel, that means that you have up till 6 insert effect per channel that way. That is a good way to save cpu for instance. This is done in the Mixer - EQ section, then press the gear button on top of the channel and set dry to Off for the track control, now the master effects behave like insert effects because the dry signal isn't sent anymore for that specific channel (this is also a great trick for sidechaining purposes or those trance sidechaining effects). But these are more advanced features to use once you understand the basics of effect assignments.

I notice that large CPU resources are quickly used when editing FX, and this is noticeable when such a style is to be played in the Chord Sequencer - it hangs up every now and then, and the more FX, the more CPU resources are required.

yes, that's really something you always have to take in to account when designing sounds or styles. It's on all the hardware synths and keyboards and there are lots of ways to keep it under control, but on hardware we don't have the luxury we have like on PC.
