Its’a Korg Day

I’ve been doing some experimenting with some keyboard sets of the Korg Pa700.


When adjusting the Eq of individual sounds normally I’ve been boosting the upper a lower hand with sounds. But today I created a set by layering three piano sounds with 1 panned to the far left, 1 far right and finally 1 centre. 

But I have found by boosting the mid band by about 9 on each of the sounds it creates a much fuller sound. Initially I set the volume of each part the same but this of course can be adjusted. 

I was searching though the effects and found a tape delay which with this and reverb added to the above produced a great sound.

On the Tyros4 you can only adjust the low and high band on each sound. But I wonder if by using the above on the Tyros4 it will change the sound very much.

Congratulations.
You have found "a secret door" - PAN.

Almost no styles are panned, and very much can be gained by doing this, which is very easy.

I have used the pan on sounds before but not to such a great extent. We seem to be quite spoiled for choice when it comes to effects on Korg Arrangers.

I’m wondering if I adjust one of two frequencies on the Eq for sounds in voice set to that of mid frequency 
this will have any effect on the sounds on the Tyros4.

It will, but only in the bass and treble range, because the center frequencies are about 40Hz and 10kHz, and these can not be adjusted.

That’s a shame, but lesson learned.

I always have theories come into my head whether they can be put into action is another thing, but that’s the fun part experimenting, especially if you get get interesting results

This is typically Yamaha; My new DGX is no exception.
This is very limiting, as the midrange range is quite critical, and especially the range around 300Hz often needs a down or upward adjustment.

Pianos that have too sharp a sound can be effectively attenuated at 300Hz.

But not if you have a Yamaha ...

The DGX is full of closed doors, and Yamaha has surpassed itself with this.
But after all: All storage works 100%, something they never did with the Tyros4 or A3000.

That’s what I’ve found out boosting the mid makes quite a difference, I’m just doing this by ear but it makes the sounds on the Pa700 a lot more fuller. 

I will experiment with other sounds, it’s a shame there are not more Pa700 / Pa1000 or Tyros4 owners here for that matter as it would be great to bounce ideas off.
