Digging Deeper With Tyros4
#1
Today I thought I would dig deeper with the Tyros4 to try and discover what tool you have to sculpt the  sounds and styles.

Continuing from my previous post where I discovered that you are able to adjust the frequencies for the hi and low gain in voice set mode.

Previously I found the for styles you could only adjust the low and hi Eq but there is no way of finding what frequencies you are adjusting.

But I did find that you can add an Eq insert effect to DSP 1

In this case a 3 band stereo Eq

(No parameters changed in this photo, for demonstration purposes)

Here you see for the mid band it’s possible to change the Q value for the mid frequency (listed as Width on the Tyros4)

But do bear in mind that parameter here will be applied to the rest of the style parts if you adjust the send levels in each part.

When adjusting the connection parameter at the bottom you can change from system to insertion

If system is selected you can adjust the levels for the Eq in each style part on the other hand if insertion is selected it affects the whole of the drum kit.

Congratulations.

I never knew about these settings on the Tyros 4, and if I had one today I would have been able to improve the sound dramatically.

Everything you need can be found as DSP effects.

So here I set the low frequency to 50hz the hi and mid set to 0.

If I’m correct in thinking the effect return level is the same as the wet / dry in the Korg. So I set this to 127.

I then set the levels in the mixer screen

I only boosted the drum and bass track

As with Chello and his Accoustic project on the Korg I only set the reverb on the Drum Track.

Here are two versions of the Stadium Rock Style.

First with no EQ applied to the drum and bass tracks

.mp3   StadiumRockA.mp3 (Size: 923.84 KB / Downloads: 5)

Second with the EQ Applied to the Drum and Bass tracks. I also set the reverb level for the drum track to 60

.mp3   stadiumrockb.mp3 (Size: 1.03 MB / Downloads: 4)

Although the workflow is slightly different similar results.can be achived on the Tyros4. Even though its what some would class as an older arranger applying the information you and qui has passed on shows what can be achieved.

Incidentally this eq can be applied to the sounds your playing in the left and right sounds without going into voice set. I think you can have to effects applied to a sound.

I used what you said before when mixing the style and set the levels to 63 as a starting point. 100 was way to loud.

Everything you say here is correct and in my opinion this is the best way.

The Tyros4 is also differently mixed; e.g. the levels are too high, and should be set to 63 to achieve the best balance and increase headroom for right sounds.
