Really good review,but also highlights the disregard for updates on older models and cohesion between the people who makes them. For instance the Yamaha CVP809 at a price of 9k hasn`t got some of these functions of wifi connection ,unbelievable ,doesn`t use YEM so cant use expansion, and one of the main update is the Revo drums which you can buy for £60 for other models.
Back in the day I used to sell Yamaha organs, every couple of years they would update the keyboard with twice as many feature for half the money, making the outgoing models pretty much worthless.
Thats why the Organ section is pretty much gone.
The CVP range still sells but people still think a 20 year old piano is worth nearly what they paid for it. Imagine selling your old Car and expecting top dollar.
So the whole industry is in disarray the prices go from the sublime to the ridiculous. The manufacturers for their part have made spare parts ridiculously expensive to get rid of old models.

But here`s the rub the organ/keyboard fraternity is dying due to the average age of the people, organ clubs are closing down and will never reappear.
And most people selling ie the Genos, sell because their parent has died or they don`t know how to use it.

in my humble opinion the market is ny on finished

@Colin

A very good summary of today's reality you brought here; I encourage the reader to read this carefully, because for many it can be enlightening.

@graham
Articles like this are very rare to find, and it gives a very good and total description of the product.
My upcoming test will probably go more in depth on some features.

im going to watch in interest Chellos`review of the 670, how it compares to the previous review.

one thing is though is value for money ,given the price point it cant reach the standards of far more expensive products, but with the right speakers does the sound quality and the new features lend for a more expensive version with these failing rectified ?

Thank you for your continued interest in my reviews.
You hit the nail on the head with your comment.

I would like to briefly state that the DGX-670 has a sound engine that is specially developed for piano (CFX), and this provides a quality for piano that surpasses all other arrangers (including Genos (Organ FSX sound engine)), simply because other arrangers have sound engines based on organ etc.
Theoretically, this means that piano and other string instruments will work best on DGX - then we will see (hear) how good the others sound.

To me, the piano is the most important of all instruments, while many others favor the organ.
I am very curious about how well adaptive styles work, as the theoretical result is very reminiscent of what you achieve with Korg Kronos.

The DGX series has always represented the best of Yamaha, and I hope that this model satisfies my requirements - they have previously been too simple.

@Colin.  DGX670 Voice Quality.  Myself use good quality headphones 100% of my playing.
I find all the voice samples as good as any previousely keyboards used.
DSP listing is extensive. Yamaha to my ears have included some of their better voice samples.
