A UNIQUE NEW TYPE OF STYLES FOR ARRANGERS

A UNIQUE NEW TYPE OF STYLES FOR ARRANGERS

In connection with testing the Wersi OAS styles for conversion, I discovered something no one has said anything about:
They are DIFFERENT from all other styles on the market.

This means that when you play a part (regardless of which) in Major, you get a pattern - when you play this in Minor, you get a different pattern.

This provides unique and new possibilities in style creation that have not been seen before.
Wersi is the only brand that does this, and conversions from this give us musicians new opportunities.

I have long done something similar with styles made from midi - I made some parts in Playback, and others in Neutral, and saved each as a style, then pasted these into a new style.
The result is a style where certain tracks give a more melodious sound.

Wersi conversions are considerably more advanced, because the pattern also changes from Major to Minor.

This is not really true. I don't own Korg, but to my knowledge that's the purpose of Chord Variations (CV). And even Yamaha doesn't officially support that feature, this can be done on Yamaha as well.

Korg advantages:
-it's official feature and can be done on keyboard
-in each variation (MainA to MainD), there can be up to six chord variation in each channel. For intro/ending only major and minor are supported, if I remember correctly.

Korg disadvantages:
-if I understand CV correctly, then all CV's on particular channel can only use the same one voice.
-I'm not sure, but I think not all chord types are implemented (i.e. sus2, sus4).

Yamaha advantages:
-all chord types can be used
-if needed, each chord variation can have different voice (is quite useful!)

Yamaha disadvantages:
-in one variation (for example, MainA) we can only have max up to eight chord variations in total (it's up to user on which of eight channels they will be used). So far I personally never needed more chord variations, but would be nice to have more.
-there's no official documentation and so it can be considered as unsupported (although Yamaha is using that feature in all built-in styles).
-while different chord sequences can be created on keyboard, on keyboard we cannot make them to actually work as chord variations. To accomplish that, the style (CASM section) must be modified on PC.

I hope you find that informative

it's indeed common on the korg models, you can even use it for different intro's, for instance select the factory style: Funky sisters, select intro 1, try the intro with a major chord, now do the same with the minor chord -> totally different intro

in quite some styles they also do tricks with the 7th chords for instance. There is a lot to discover once you dive into the korg factory styles.

Both bogdaH & Robinez are correct. I took advantage of this feature on my early Korg's years ago.

Thanks for the theoretical clarification of my claim.

At first I was inclined to believe that you were right, but that I was also right.
I was wrong.

Theoretical explanations are not always convincing, but Qui Robinez gave a concrete example, and thus I could state that Korg can also do the same as Wersi.

Different tracks are active for Intro 1 when you play Major or Minor, and different patterns are used.

I've always known that there is a certain difference between playing in Major and Minor, but I didn't know that there were such advanced examples of Pa5X.

In any case, I was able to focus on something that is very little discussed - that playing in Major or Minor means that different parts are active, but more important; different patterns are also used.

Many thanks for guiding me, Qui.  10
