What is needed to convert Soundfont files to Korg?
#1
I was trying to use Awave to convert the Soundfont files to the correct format for creating importing to Korg format (Pa700). What format do I need to save the files to once loaded into Awave ?

@musicalmemoriesuk

As far as I understand, SF2 must be converted to KMP in order to be loaded to Pa700.
SF2 often contains many parameters that Pa does not use or can benefit from, and thus not all SF2 can be used.

All this is supposedly easy for those who know it, but I am not one of them, and can not stand having to spend a lot of time to load only a single SF2 to my Pa.

It is almost a bit ironic that I have in all years condemned YEM, when YEM fixes all this automatically for a Yamaha that is compatible with YEM - either the individual SF2 works, or it does not.
Easy & fast.

YEM is a winner in this area, making it easy to install new sounds.
Too bad Korg has not made something similar.

Anyway, I'm sure anthour can help you with your question.

Hi

No need to convert anything....

PA keyboards up from 700 can import SF2 files.

Yamaha can manage stéréo multisamples... Korg does not.

If you have a stereo UVN Awave Studio will split it into to mono layers that can be imported separately into the PA.

To load SF2 files do not go to the Load menu but the IMPORT menu.

You are the one who has the most experience with this, and gave a simple and understandable answer - which I figured you could.

The web is full of misleading explanations on this topic.
It's good that we have you with us.

Thanks once again. I remember from a previous post on the old forum regarding some Soundfonts that don’t import and using Awave to rectify this.

Yes Awave fix the samples that did'nt load most of the time because of Stereo Samples.

To be shure I allways open and save again all the samples with Awave Studio.

Just curious if you have to use all the multisamples in a soundfont, or can you mix and match sounds from 2 soundfonts to create a new sound ?

@musicalmemoriesuk

As I have seen, you can freely choose which samples in multisamples you want to omit or not, and you can add layers from other soundfonds as well.
I do not know how this is done, but it appears in the menus in Awave.

I have obtained a number of special programs for working with SF2 in Win95, which I plan to test soon on my old PC.

Thanks Chello I once before layered different piano multi samples to create a new sound, much in the same way as combining different oscillators from different sounds on the Pa700
