MERRY CHRISTMAS 2022
I would like to wish all members a Merry Christmas, and at the same time remind all that Christmas is a time to think about others besides oneself.
I have a story about this from my own reality:
In 1981/82 I served my military service in the Norwegian Armed Forces.
I got a leave of absence at Christmas 81, and took a flight from Tromsø to Bergen to spend Christmas at home with my family.
From there I would take a bus to my hometown in Odda.
Unfortunately, I lost the bus, which was the last bus that day, and I was forced to take in a hotel.
On the way to the hotel, I met someone I got to know at recruit school, who thought my situation was too damning.
He invited me to his family's home in Bergen, which consisted of himself and his grandparents, who were very old - they would appreciate extra company, he said.
His grandparents were extremely wealthy and lived in a luxury villa.
Once inside, I was introduced and assigned a seat at the end of the huge dining table.
They had their own servant who was responsible for the catering, and I got a full dinner with all kinds of accessories plus exclusive wine for the food, as well as presents afterwards.
Finally, I was shown into a room for accommodation, and got full breakfast the next morning as well as free taxi to the bus station.
I've never forgotten this grand gesture from someone I barely knew, and this is the nicest Christmas I've ever experienced.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
