STOP Placing Your Speakers Like This! (Hear the Difference)

Take the time to hear what this man has to say about speaker placement.

I have used this setup for years and will never use anything else.

Very interesting subject which started in my school days and followed into my paid working years.

Listening on headphones to those recordings his voice is central but to my ears the first half of recordings was left biased.

Having spent many years testing speaker room and listening positioning placements.
To me there is no ideal speaker placement position because there are so many variables and cancellation factors dependent on room size and also the position of the listener,
but it is possible with time to obtain a good sounding listening room.

When I did finalise my speaker placements, drawing pins were placed in the floor for ease of repeating where the speakers and listening chair needed to go.
Fortunately my mental hospital bed was casncelled !!!!.

I listened to his demos with the horns, and there was a huge difference in the precision of the perspective when his speakers were placed on the floor compared to against the wall.

My horns are almost in the middle of the room, with a distance between them about the distance to the listening position.

This gives an insane perspective on almost all recordings, even if they are average.

To find the best position, I measured and put up strips of tape, so that the entire floor was full of marked positions.

I found that the distance between the speakers can be increased, but not decreased, and that the distance to the listening position can be decreased, but not increased.

I also found that the top plate of the horns could be increased in length to lower the height of the perspective.
I have never seen any theories about this last one, which is strange, because this more than anything else sets the correct height of the perspective.

When I sit in my chair, I have a sense of a stage in front of me where the musicians are performing, and I can place each one of them.

I never thought I would be able to recreate a scene in such a believable way, and it is more rewarding to listen to music than ever.
