Continuing with my experiments.
I am now of the opinion that less is definitely more in regards to effects.
As you will be aware I have been working with my dual reverb project for sometime now.
Focus is now based on what I call the ambient reverb which has no pre delay and very little reverb time, I then apply the second reverb if needed which is a hall reverb this create a sense of space.
But not all sounds need reverb some sounds work / sound better completely dry.
Not all of the sounds in your mix actually require reverb.

Very good conclusion.
Ambient reverb is precisely what is essential in combination with hall reverb.
You have concluded exactly as I have.
All sounds also have different amounts of ambient reverb in the sampling, and by choosing the right sounds this fits together with minimal need for additional effects.
It is better with too little than too much.

On a few mixing videos I’ve seen it mentions when you find a value that sounds good knock it back a little.
The ambience defines the characteristics of the space you’re trying to create, the furnishings, the ceiling etc etc. Be it in a small or large space the ambience can have varying effect on the second reverb.
Think about is you could be playing in a small room with low ceilings but the furnishings could cause the room to have a lot of natural reverb or echos.
Or you could be in a large room that has a very dry reverb with no echo.
