HOW I DO IT

HOW I DO IT

THE SIMPLE IS OFTEN THE BEST
Most of the internal styles on the Pa5X are well mixed, but all have, in my opinion and taste, too low a level of drums and perc, while many of these elements in addition, almost cannot be heard.

This is my primary goal with my mixing; to highlight all effects found in drums and perc.
In some cases this also applies to other instruments.

In addition, I add Ambience to drums and perc, and this is now only done with the Drum Editor, which has a built-in option to add Ambience to individual drum elements.
This is real Ambience, and it does not have any of the disadvantages of the previously used Reverb Room.

I use the Drum Editor to amplify all active drum and perc elements.

In addition, I use the Stereo Limiter or Stereo Compressor for active drum elements (only available for drums in this setup) in the Drum Editor, with individual adjustment of the effect.

Finally, I do something that I have not done before, namely to reduce the levels for drums and perc (typically from 100 to 80).
This is important so that the soundscape is not dominated too much by drums and perc; only the details should be highlighted.

All my previous edits have had too high levels for drums and perc, which has caused problems in the form of negative compression and compressed sound image.

At the same time, only a minor reduction of the average sound level with the Finalizer's Limiter is necessary - I have chosen -20dB as the highest level, while Korg has a somewhat higher level than this.

It is better to have a little too much headroom than a little too little.
