- BETTER THAN PA5X - ARE PA1X STYLES THE BEST ON THE MARKET ?

I've never heard anything so insanely good, but the comparison I recently made with Audya (also applies to Wersi) was spot on.

But Pa1X is at least as good, because something happens that has never happened before to such an extent:
STYLE WITH ALTERNATIVE INTRO 1 / ENDING 1

When I play a style's Intro 1 / Ending 1 in Minor, I get a traditional rhythm pattern, but if I change to Major, I get a completely different one..!

Even better:
This is not the only style that is like this - I have found 1 more in the same genre, and maybe there are more ?

I will now check all Pa1X styles to find more if possible, and inform you about this when relevant.
I can already tell there are a LOT of them, also in other genres.
Many of these styles are available on the Pa5X, and these are "upgraded".
I would say they are "downgraded", because the mixing on the Pa1X versions is many times better done, and more strangely:
The styles on the Pa1X have more advanced rhythm patterns, and most have alternative Intro 1 / Ending 1.
Styles from Pa1X converted to Pa5X work so well that it is actually not necessary to make ANY edits, as all tracks are better level adjusted than Pa5 internal styles.
As I've probably said several times before, different effects affect each other.

If you replace e.g. bass and drums on a style with someone from another style, this is exactly what happens - sometimes one or more effects in Master FX have to be turned off or changed so that everything doesn't sound sick, while other times this works positively and creates an effect that is unique and works exceptionally well.

If you are using OS 4.0 or later, the Pa5X arranges all effects automatically, and it is very rare that this doesn't work well, because effects that don't fit together are automatically disabled.

With previous OS, it was common for such combinations to often not work at all - the keyboard hung up, the sound collapsed and a restart was required.
So Korg has done something right along the way, and created an arranger with features no one else has.

MIXING MUST BE DONE INDIVIDUALLY AND WITH CARE

I have now worked with all kinds of effects almost daily for almost 4 years, and have discovered many ways to mix.

The Pa5X's internal styles are mixed with many different setups, depending on the kind of sound image that is desired for the individual style.

I struggled for a long time to find a setup that works with all styles, but this is not possible, although the Drum Editor will ALWAYS be able to improve all drum kits.

Korg has in many cases used Reverb on drums, and this can be advantageously turned off, and replaced by Genuine Ambience with the Drum Editor, which is available for many drum kits.

The selected drum kit can also in many cases be changed to one that works better, but this only applies to styles created with OS before version 3.0, because later versions of styles have drum kits that are heavily modified in Cubase, and thus only the original drum kit will work; all others will sound terrible.

My latest Punchy Drums mix with parametric EQ of all active drum elements works well, while parametric EQ for all tracks gives very different results.

So it seems that the final solution is to use the Drum Editor, Punchy Drums mix, and reduce the level of reverb on all tracks, because this is generally far too high and masks the touch of different instruments.

I have also learned that all changes should be made with the utmost care, and always LESS than you first think, because each track affects the rest.

NORMAL EQ OR ADVANCED EQ ?

There are an incredible number of ways to use EQ.

The most common one for arrangers is strictly speaking completely wrong (Master EQ), because it gives the same EQ to all tracks.

Individual EQ is more correct, but using HIGH, MID and LOW EQ means that the frequency and Q values are fixed, which is often insufficient.

I am convinced that I have found a better way - I clearly like one version better than the other, but I will not say why until someone says which they like best, and preferably why.

These 2 versions of my own mix are VERY different, and everything is done with EQ plus something else:
After almost 4 years of continuous use (with subsequent OS updates), I can confirm that the Pa5X can do something NO ONE else can:

When you mix style parts from one style to another, the Pa5X automatically adjusts a number of parameters and adapts all effects to those already on the source style.

For those who don't know:
You can't mix all the effects you want, as many create conflicts together.

The genius thing is that the Pa5X's artificial intelligence actually avoids mixing effects that don't fit together.

This didn't work optimally with the earliest OS, but now works very well.

I haven't seen similar functions on any other keyboard; different models have external software that "fixes things", but none have this built in like the Pa5X has.

Another thing is that when you edit a style and save it with OS 1.4 or later, I hear that the resolution is improved - this applies not only to styles from midi, but to everything you save.

The Pa5X is known to have the world's best hardware, and this is clearly audible with OS 1.4.

I just tested my new mini PC, and everything worked as it should automatically, which is rare, because mouse and keyboard (Logitec) almost never work automatically on a new PC.
The AUNE dac's driver also worked as it should, which is very unusual.

However, when I put the Logitec receivers back into my normal PC, something happened that I can't explain:

The mouse didn't work, and it took me a while to get it working, but now it doesn't work with setting 1 which is always the only one that has worked - I had to use setting 3, which has never worked before.

I haven't touched any settings before this happened; only used the receivers with the new PC.
Very sick.

ORGANIZED IN WORK - OR NOT

I was born and raised in one of Norway's most organized communities - Odda, which has 3 large industrial workplaces.

Many of the country's workers' rights have their origins there.

I grew up with the lesson that together, workers have all the rights, while company management must adapt to the workers' demands or go bankrupt.

I was early served a story about a main union representative who was so good at winning the workers' demands that the company owners did everything they could to get rid of him, without success.

Or..?

As a union representative, you have to attend social events with the management, and they used these events to get him over to their side.

What happened next shook the entire society:

The same union representative started as a human resources manager at the largest company, and ordinary employees lost their hard-earned rights faster than anyone thought possible..!

The trend spread to the other largest companies and the rest of the working world at record speed, because the largest companies were the ones setting the tone regarding workers' rights.

Odda was never the same after this.

For many years I have seen this as the worst form of high treason, but today I have a completely different opinion:

As the chief shop steward, I would probably have done the same, because my experience indicates that most workers will do as little as possible for the company, and only think about themselves.

Put another way:

The organization protects the weak, and limits the strong workers.
The more skillful you are, the more you will lose by organizing.

As is known, a company does not always benefit from having organized workers, because they strike effectively if their demands are not met, which are often higher than the company can live with.

Many bankruptcies can probably be attributed to such circumstances.

Many years ago, I was offered a permanent high position in Norway's largest union, but I declined because I was already beginning to realize that even this organization was staffed by people who were on a perpetual ego trip, and to a large extent used their position to gain power, free travel and free hotel stays.
There was also a colossal alcohol consumption among them and sexual excesses; all were married, but used prostitution services like few others.

I have been involved in high-level organizational work for over 20 years, and have seen the rottenness from the inside.

Perhaps Norway would have benefited from people like Elon Musk taking over large parts of the industry, because his basic idea is based on each individual receiving a salary according to actual effort, and common automatic rights do not exist.

MY LAST JOB IN WORKING LIFE

I retired in 2013.

My story should interest everyone in the working world, because it largely shows the mentality of most workers, from the bottom to the top.

I started at my last workplace as a janitor, and quickly realized that everything was very poorly organized for my work.

I was given quite a free hand to do what I thought was necessary, and spent a lot of time going around the company's various departments to look for necessary improvements.

This was a large company, with many different departments, and one of the largest in the city.

My free hands were quickly tried to be tied when I insisted that I needed a workshop to carry out necessary tasks - this was too expensive, they said.

There were several people employed as janitors, but I was the only one with free hands; all the others had specialized tasks.

They had been trying for a long time to get their own workshop with the necessary tools and machines, but were getting nowhere with their demands.

A plan to achieve my goal began to take shape, and I went around different departments looking for improvements, and talked to workers and foremen about how these could be carried out, and finally presented this to the production manager.

He showed little interest, but promised to fulfill some of my wishes in exchange for my guarantee that everything would be done properly.

An idea I had included a major work and considerable cost for the mechanical department, which had about 20 CNC machines - none of these machines had a proper workstation with space for equipment for the individual machine, and everything was chaotically organized, which resulted in lost time and dangerous working conditions.

I made drawings of workstations for each machine, and delivered these to the welding department, and after some time my order was ready for assembly.

Together with other janitors I started the assembly - none of the operators really understood what this was for, but when the workstations were finished, the comments poured in, and everyone agreed that this was a significant improvement that made their working day much easier.
Some said that this had been requested for 40 years - finally they were heard..!

After this, I designed and built a carpentry workshop for the janitors' department, which had a lot of new tasks due to new machines and tools, and I also trained all the janitors to operate everything.

After a while, the production manager came by, stood there and looked, and exclaimed:
This looks really good, Alme..!

Some time later I was asked if I would like to be transferred to the mechanical department, because the company thought that my skills could be best utilized there, to which I accepted.

In the meantime, the company had a new production manager and a new chief foreman in the mechanical department.
Even though I had worked for many years as a janitor, machinist and machine mechanic, everything was quite new and unfamiliar - I had to learn everything from scratch.

It was almost fun to work with the CNC machines, which all had workstations that I had designed and made.

Most of the people who worked with CNC had vocational training or were doing this, while I did not.

I taught myself basic programming on my own by studying other people's programming and writing it down, and this was actually easy to understand, as most machines were DOS based.

Newer machines were Win7 based, and very easy to program.

We all had a simple production form that had to be filled out for each task, and I made my own after a while, when I realized that a more detailed description would improve the production result and reduce wear, as well as prevent (and shed light on) accidents resulting from missing information.

The new production manager was thrilled when he saw this form one day, and asked what all the details were for, and asked for a copy.

Shortly after, this form became standard for everyone who worked with CNC, which not everyone liked very much, because it required more effort from the individual, and when something went wrong, management could find out who was responsible and why..!

As a result of my efforts, I was also assigned the responsibility for testing new milling cutters, as well as accounting for the exact time for all operations for new work tasks.

One thing the others liked even less was that I was given the responsibility for the maintenance and delivery of all measuring tools, which meant that they had to answer to me every day whether they had calibrated the measuring tools correctly and treated them as they should.

In addition, I was given the responsibility for reorganizing all tools, as well as the responsibility for grinding and maintaining all drills.

Finally, I was given the responsibility for training new people; also partly apprentices, because the production manager thought they could learn a lot from me, even though they always worked with a foreman.
It is also interesting that one of my apprentices received the best grades ever given by the company.

As a result of my greater responsibility, I also got paid better, which created envy among all those who were just doing their regular jobs.

Just before I left, I was asked to become the head shop steward, which I refused, because I have bad experiences with this position.

This story gives a good picture of working life and the mentality of workers - most are only interested in doing their job and receiving their pay, complain about everything, but do little or nothing themselves to do a better job.

The story also shows that it is entirely possible to succeed without having any professional education in the job.

Here's a really good example of how an internal style can be changed almost beyond recognition with simple edits.
Earth Dance contains a bunch of hidden effects, which I've brought to life with simple EQ edits in the Drum Editor (SFX), as well as my Punchy Drums EQ.
PD EQ reveals some effects that are otherwise impossible to perceive.
