MY HYPOTHESES ABOUT PA5X AND NEGATIVE REVIEWS - Chello - 07-25-2022 MY HYPOTHESES ABOUT PA5X AND NEGATIVE REVIEWS Hypothesis 1 - RAM: Everyone says they only have 2.5GB of RAM, while Korg "promised" 4GB. As far as stated, no one has an SD card installed. They have obviously not understood that Pa5X's system is based on streaming between RAM and SD card (same system as Kronos), and that Pa5X originally only has a 1GB hard drive. It should therefore be logical that 4GB cannot be achieved, because this is limited by the hard drive's size of 1GB. Install an SD card, and the capacity will increase to the specified size. RE: MY HYPOTHESES ABOUT PA5X AND NEGATIVE REVIEWS - Chello - 07-25-2022 MY HYPOTHESES ABOUT PA5X AND NEGATIVE REVIEWS Hypothesis 2 - STYLE PLAYER OUT OF SYNCH: Users seem to think that as long as the tempo is the same for both styles, then this should work. They also believe that as long as the time signature is the same; e.g. 4/4, then this should work. The reality is different. Many styles have short parts with a different time signature - it often occurs, for example, 6/8 in a 4/4 style. In such cases, the style will come out of synch the moment the 6/8 part has gone a few bars. Anyway - if you play 2 styles that are both 4/4 long enough, problems with the synchronization will occur after a certain time. I've experienced this multiple times with every keyboard I've owned, and the OASYS and Kronos have significant sync issues when playing experimentally and continuously. No one has ever said anything about this. That Korg has actually managed to develop a style player that can play 2 styles at the same time must be considered an almost unreal achievement, because the world of music is in no way static, as MIDI tries to make it. RE: MY HYPOTHESES ABOUT PA5X AND NEGATIVE REVIEWS - Chello - 07-25-2022 MY HYPOTHESES ABOUT PA5X AND NEGATIVE REVIEWS Hypothesis 3 - STYLE SETS FROM PA4X /PA1000 WILL NOT LOAD Nonsense. As long as sets are made from scratch on Pa4X/Pa1000 or these are original, they will load just fine. If, on the other hand, these are custom sets, these often do not have the necessary valid parameters, and will not be able to be loaded. Pa5X has a new file system, and this requires that the parameters used are valid. RE: MY HYPOTHESES ABOUT PA5X AND NEGATIVE REVIEWS - whitecolin1 - 07-26-2022 I agree with the first point the second is great in theory but if it doesn`t work in practice then will end up being a novelty. The third however doesn`t make sense to me. Imagine designing a programme that doesn't or poorly works with their own instruments. This will be a major gripe with Korg owners. This is similar to Yamaha with incompatible registrations and PPI that only work on targeted Keyboards. For me this this is a huge opportunity missed. That being said were lucky that have a forum that discusses the elephants in the room and don`t sugercoat these glitches. RE: MY HYPOTHESES ABOUT PA5X AND NEGATIVE REVIEWS - Chello - 07-26-2022 @Colin Thank you for your view on my hypotheses. Your view is basically what I want to achieve with my article; that users must reason based on what the facts mean for them individually. The third point is probably the one that will have the biggest influence on most people's choice to buy or not, but I personally attach the least importance to this, as I can create my own styles fairly easily from midi. It is also worth pointing out that conversion with Style Works will probably work very poorly, because all parameters will be reset, and these will have to be edited on the keyboard afterwards. RE: MY HYPOTHESES ABOUT PA5X AND NEGATIVE REVIEWS - musicalmemoriesuk - 07-26-2022 Every make and model of arrangers will have pros and cons, is there really such a thing as a perfect arranger keyboard? But ultimately it’s down to the end users needs and what they expect or want of a certain model. RE: MY HYPOTHESES ABOUT PA5X AND NEGATIVE REVIEWS - Chello - 07-26-2022 @musicalmemoriesuk Every make and model of arrangers will have pros and cons, is there really such a thing as a perfect arranger keyboard? But ultimately it’s down to the end users needs and what they expect or want of a certain model. So true - there is no such thing as a perfect model. The best we can hope for is that the model lives up to our expectations to the extent that we can live with it. |
