AMBIENT DRUMS / DRUMS WITH GENUINE AMBIENCE - Chello - 07-06-2026 AMBIENT DRUMS / DRUMS WITH GENUINE AMBIENCE Yamaha really tried to do something unique when they launched Genos 2 with Ambient Drums. However, I think they have made some hasty choices, as Ambient Drums as I understand it works with a kind of Finalizer; that is, all drum elements are assigned the same amount of Genuine Ambience (which is found in most drum kit samples). This is very wrong, because bass drums are also assigned this, and lose their punch and become unclear in the attack. The same thing happens as with the Pa5X when Korg uses Reverb as an effect on the drums. If you use Yamaha's principle (Genuine Ambience is better suited than Reverb) and add Genuine Ambience with the Drum Editor to all drum elements, the same thing happens. If Reverb is used, a filter must be created in the effect, which reduces the influence in the bass range, but even then this is far less authentic than Genuine Ambience. If Genuine Ambience is used, it should never be added to bass drums, and in fact should often be reduced to give the bass drum the right punch. Around the same time that Genos 2 was released, I started using Genuine Ambience on all styles on the Pa5X, which I am convinced is the best solution. Many have commented that my styles feel very alive and authentic, and this is largely due to my use of Genuine Ambience. |
