Bit of an old relic - musicalmemoriesuk - 06-30-2026 So today I got given bit of an old relic in the form of a Yamaha DGX500, someone was offering it and thought it would be great for the grandchildren to play with. RE: Bit of an old relic - aprilla - 06-30-2026 They'll have fun with that RE: Bit of an old relic - musicalmemoriesuk - 06-30-2026 Might be able to use it as a midi controller as well considering it has 88 keys RE: Bit of an old relic - Chello - 06-30-2026 The early DGX models had an exceptionally good keybed; even better than the DGX-670, with a MUCH heavier touch response. Playing the grand piano on my DGX-620 was amazing - better than anything else I've tried. If Chello states it's even better than the DGX670 Keybed, then it must be very good. RE: Bit of an old relic - aprilla - 06-30-2026 You can't give the DGX to the kids then take it back. Keep it and give the kids the Korg
RE: Bit of an old relic - musicalmemoriesuk - 06-30-2026 KORG and sticky fingers nooo. There’s way too much that ends up in the landfill sites that could be re purposed. Back in my pc building days the skips would be full of old pc towers and parts, back then if you were sneaky you could take stuff out the skips, now everything is surrounded by security cameras. Im not expecting too much in the way of the sound considering its age, but then it’s free so I can’t complain Now to hunt out the old 3.5 inch floppy disks i put somewhere, luckily I have a usb floppy drive. RE: Bit of an old relic - musicalmemoriesuk - 06-30-2026 Have just collected the DGX 500 it’s definitely a weighty item, not quite up there with the Pa5x when I have that. The DGX 500 is very simply built with limited features, but its keybed is probably in a class of its own. If you are not used to playing on a real grand piano, you will probably have to build up your finger strength, but after a short time you will discover how much easier it is to play the piano correctly when you have an older DGX. It seems that all early models have a significantly better keybed than newer ones, and it is a fact that e.g. Korg Pa1X (61..!) has a much better keybed than Pa5X 76. |
