WHAT I LIKE AND DISLIKE ABOUT DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS

ROLAND:
They don't keep up with the times, and none of the best they make today is probably good enough.

KETRON:
They have made the best rhythms for years with a layout that no one else can match, but they have an extensive copyright in all software, which means that the user constantly has to ask for new keys for software that has been purchased.

YAMAHA:
Models such as the Tyros 4 are one of the best on the market, but are limited to 61 keys.
Most more expensive models are only available with 61 keys.
In addition, advanced edits are only possible via RGT on all models except the Tyros 5.

KORG:
They have made the world's best arranger, but to date have not fixed buttons that fail, not fixed the most serious bugs, and not made a new foot pedal.

Interesting Topic,I work with a technician and see first hand build quality and sound quality of different products.
The one that shocked me was a Nord stage 4, The sound quality is excellent the keybed surprisingly not so.

However the insides were 3 circuit board and the keybed is highly influenced by how much you tighten the screws.

Now this where i got the biggest shock, the distortion toggle was broken and consists of a small piece of metal and spring.

Nord wont supply the part, even under warranty you have to send it at a cost of £90 to their hub and they  use one technician who works wednesday.
You can however order the toggle switch at a cost of £300 unbelivable

Many thanks for your comment; I checked a bit afterwards, and found shockingly many cases of Stage 4 not working properly.

The type of dysfunctions span a wide range from keybed, toggle, sliders, Encoder switch, Tact switch, as well as problems with noise & distortions.

The keybed(s) are generally somewhat primitive, because they do not support triple sensor technology like Studiologic does, and this is a clear limitation along with other synths.

The keybed is also very susceptible to dust and dirt in the sensors of the keybed, which results in the keys not doing what they should.
Easy repair, but it happens all the time...
There are generally very extensive problems with the keybed.

Buttons, switches and sliders are mechanically substandard with extensive problems.

The Nord Stage 4 has a colossal number of buttons and switches, which can justify the high price - or..?
Good buttons and switches are expensive, and it is clear that the ones used on the Stage 4 are not good enough.

Service and repairs carried out by the manufacturer are also poorly done, and there are cases where they have fixed something and broken something else. Service also tends to come at the user's expense.

When there are so many and extensive problems with the Stage 4, which is the top model (and far too expensive), it is understandable that the problems are at least as extensive with the models below.

I have long wondered about the large number of used Nords for sale on the Norwegian second-hand market, but I now understand why.

Good sound is not everything.
