CHANGING DB = CHANGING SOUND IMAGE

Which output level you choose has a big influence on the final sound image.

Korg has chosen a very high output level for the Pa5X: -5 dB.

I prefer a significantly lower one; -20 dB.

If I lower an internal style to -20 dB, however, something happens that probably surprises many:
The sound image changes completely, and several instruments are too loud or too low, and must be corrected.

At the same time, the sound image opens up, and unfortunate compression ratios are reduced or eliminated altogether.

If all style parts are set to 100 at -5 dB, for example, these will have to be reduced to about 60-70 at -20 dB, but must be individually corrected to higher or lower values to achieve the same balance as before.

is that on the genos you get a big disparity in the volume of sounds, its always been frustrating when one sound drowns out the others.
If thats why what the solution on yamaha

The solution is unfortunately that the user has to adjust everything individually for each style.

Yamaha uses a level of 100-110 for all style parts, which causes problems with balance; there is too little headroom to adjust the differences.
The best working solution is to adjust all style parts to 64, and fine-tune each style part up or down from there.

Yamaha uses a different setup than Korg, which often leads to problems with achieving an equal balance between rhythm level and solo level and sounds in general.

Reducing style part levels to 64 minimizes the problem.

With Korg this is a non-existent problem.

It also helps to reduce the total output level, which is often around -10 to -5 dB.
I have reduced the Pa5X's total output level from -5dB to -20 dB, which gives significantly better headroom for adjustments.

The sound also gets better..!
