THE ART OF BUYING SECOND HAND - Chello - 03-20-2026 THE ART OF BUYING SECOND HAND One thing I've learned: DON'T post a Wanted ad. And if you do - DON'T state the desired price. Sellers don't take into account that you specifically state the model and the price you want to pay for it. They also take advantage of the situation and decide the price themselves, hoping that you MUST have what they have, and pay far above the actual value. The trick is to wait until someone posts a For Sale ad, and then YOU decide the price and take control. RE: THE ART OF BUYING SECOND HAND - whitecolin1 - 03-20-2026 I wish we could do this in this country, but places like Market place and Ebay ask for description and price, unfortunately there are a lot of scammers who put reduced price on keyboards etc to lure customers in. This brings the price of keyboards down and sadly thats the starting place for negotiation There should be some legislation that show price trends so everything is clear, but Marketplace in particular don`t care. They ask for the price here too, but the buyer has the option to leave the window blank. It's a good idea to have some legislation that shows price trends - second-hand markets have statistics that should have been required to be used by the country's authorities. In fact, AI can be of great help in finding a realistic value - I tested with Pa5X, and here is the answer i got: AI Overview Based on market data from March 2026, a used Korg Pa5X 76-key arranger workstation bought new in 2022 is generally valued between $3,800 and $4,500 USD (£2,900 - £3,600 GBP in Europe), depending on its condition and included accessories. Key Resale Information (As of March 2026) * Mint/Excellent Used Condition: Listings are appearing around $3,800 - $4,200. * Open Box/Demo Deal: Often sold by dealers for $4,100 - $4,500. * Market Price Trends: While the initial MSRP was high in 2022, the 76-key version currently sees used prices holding relatively well for a 4-year-old digital instrument, largely due to its "top-tier" status and continued updates. Factors Affecting Your Value: Condition: Mint condition with original packaging fetches higher prices. Speakers: The optional PaAS MK2 amplification system adds significant value, often selling for over £500 ($650+) on its own. Location: Resale prices in Europe (GBP/EUR) are currently competitive, with some UK dealers listing used units for around £2,900. Note: The PA5X does not have built-in speakers, so selling it with the dedicated PaAS speaker system increases its appeal. This answer shows that AI is a good tool for this, because the suggested price is identical to the actual price level in Norway's second-hand market for the Pa5X 76. |
