YAMAHA SFF2 STYLES FOR MODX M - Chello - 12-10-2025

YAMAHA SFF2 STYLES FOR MODX M

I will soon present the "ultimate" styles for MODX M, which are more advanced than any SFF2 styles for any arranger; no matter how advanced they may be.

They are converted from SFF2, but reworked to take advantage of the more advanced structure of MODX M.
These styles are far more advanced than any found on Genos and others.

Each style is 16 parts wide:

* 8 automatic accompaniment parts
The pattern played by each part is changeable (within a given set preprogrammed for the style), even in real time, for each MAIN section.

* 4 lead parts
Freely assignable (independently for each OTS) to the left and/or right of the split point, in any proportion (from 3L-1R way up to 4R, by default they are set to 1L-3R).

* 4 aux parts
Programmable as split/layers and playable in up to 2 auxiliary keyboards/pedalboard.

How did you learn advanced programming on the MODX so quickly? Looks not like a trivial task to produce arranger styles on a synthesizer/workstation.
I wouldn't know where to start with converting SFF2 files to a format the MODX understands.
Are there undocumented features such as chord recognition?

I'm very curious about the results, would love to hear a recording of one of your styles when you have one ready.
Thanks Chello!

It's good that you have great faith in my competence.  15

I've done similar things several times before, but this is not my work.
There is a company that makes them, and they have also developed their own software for this that can be purchased.

I'll keep the name a secret for now, but if anyone guesses it, I'll confirm it.
Converting styles this way is very complex, but it looks like it's been done very seriously.

I'll probably get the first styles tomorrow, and it looks like the styles can be modified by changing arpeggios, just like on the Pa5X.

I've sent them an email with a few questions, but they haven't replied yet, but I'm buying a pack of styles anyway - it looks like the company is still up and running.

It seems like I totally misunderstood this concept:

I bought and downloaded a pack of styles that I thought could be installed directly on the MODX M, but it seems that these have to be loaded into the software (which also has to be purchased..!) in order to create styles from.

The software is called Groovyband Live

RE: YAMAHA SFF2 STYLES FOR MODX M - Chello - 12-11-2025

Groovyband won't install on my PC - I get this message:

The strange thing is that even if I change the screen resolution, I get the same message.

The company has still not responded to my inquiry about this problem and how their styles can be used.
I can therefore not recommend purchasing the software - does it work at all ?

And anyway, the procedures for all installation are very complex with many security procedures to prevent others from accessing what you have purchased.

I am of the firm opinion that companies that are so hysterically concerned with protecting their own material do not deserve to have paying customers.

Warning is hereby given - BEWARE !

RE: YAMAHA SFF2 STYLES FOR MODX M - Chello - 12-11-2025

I found someone else who makes arranger styles for MODX.

I have purchased a package that I am waiting to download, and when I get this I will hopefully be able to fulfill my desire to play arranger styles on MODX M.

The idea is that I can make my own by modifying a purchased one.

so i have had the green light for the modx  and i also have sample robot which is compatible to convert sounds so if we can find which programme converts styles that would be brilliant.
So if you can convert styles to Modx can you then change them back as advanced styles on genos

Groovyband Live can convert SFF2 styles, but it's terribly complicated - everything has to be relearned, because the interface is unlike anything I've seen.

And when the demo doesn't work, I don't dare buy the program.
Support is also clearly useless, since they don't bother to answer my questions.

When it comes to changing back styles as advanced styles on Genos, this is impossible, simply because Genos doesn't have the hardware for this - MODX M is far more advanced than Genos, and also uses MIDI 2.0, which is not supported by Genos.

MIDI 2.0 places far higher demands on the hardware than what is used as standard, and even the Pa5X is not good enough.

Hey Chello

Did you read the screen at Groovyband????

It says ONLY runs on Windows 10  64 bit devices

Is that what operating system etc you are Using?

Baz

I saw that, yes.
But I didn't take this seriously, since I use Win 11 64 bit.
The vast majority of programs made for Win 10 also work with Win 11, but various functions may be missing.

The fact that the software is made for MODX and Montage (not M) will only have the consequence that functions that are MIDI 2.0 based are not given access - these functions only get standard functionality.

But it's the same as with Windows - styles made for MODX will work normally with MODX M, but without its MIDI 2.0 extension.
