AN INSANE EXPERIENCE OF PERSPECTIVE
While testing the Yamaha HS-5 monitors, I experienced something I have only experienced once before:
A perspective that even surpasses my horn speakers.
Quite by chance, I happened to lean forward in front of the keyboard, so that my ears came between the speakers.
Suddenly I was INSIDE the soundstage, with the instruments all around me on all sides..!
The first (and only) time I have experienced something similar was 30 years ago when I tested different setups with some small Dali monitors:
It turned out that when I placed them on stands on either side of the chair I was sitting in, the experience of perspective became almost unreal and surreally real, and it was absolutely impossible to hear that the sound was coming from the monitors.
I had many listeners visiting, and they all stayed and listened to music in a way they had never experienced before.
They didn't want to leave..!
These Yamaha monitors are the only ones that have managed to do something similar, and I have tested every speaker I have had in the hope that they could do this too.
I will spend the necessary time to find the placement that manages to retain as much of this perspective as possible, which is not entirely easy in my case, as I have very limited placement options.
The Yamaha HS-5 appear to be exceptional in terms of perspective, which I was not at all prepared for.
