WHICH SOUND IS THE MOST CRITICAL ON AN ARRANGER ?
Most users are very focused on an arranger's sounds, and especially the piano.
They talk a lot about the wonderful natural fidelity of all the sounds.
But they forget the most important..?
All of this is worthless if the drums don't follow it up.
And the drums are a sad chapter for most arrangers.
Secondly, reverb is of crucial importance for the experience of reality, but here many problems start:
Stop a little first; reverb should be replaced with ambience, which is the real original effect.
Many drum kits have the option of being assigned genuine ambience, while many other sounds have varying amounts in the sampling itself, which cannot be adjusted, as drums can.
Genos2 supposedly has the option of varying amounts of genuine ambience on the drums, but Yamaha makes a very serious mistake:
They assign the same amount of ambience to the entire kit, which destroys the bass drum's bass punch.
Korg has done something similar with many internal styles on the Pa5X, using reverb on the drum kit, which has effectively destroyed the punch of the bass drum.
None of Pa5X's internal kits have enabled possible ambience; all values are set to zero.
What's the point of this ?
Why has Korg set all values to zero for ambience ?
I have only heard one arranger that has truly lifelike drums, and that is the Ketron Audya 76.
The Pa5X can also be very good with dual drum kits and the right amount of ambience, but the Audya is still better, with a dynamic that no one else has, and that even with factory settings..!
Everything is ready to use with Audya - perfectly mixed together.
Every recent Yamaha I've tried has been terribly mixed, while the Pa5X is far better mixed, but by no means perfect.
Only Audya is.
So Ketron must be allowed to be more expensive than others, because it is better.
It will be like a type of coffee, which is a little more expensive for the sake of taste.
