RE: Style comparisons - Chello - 10-03-2024

Here is my immediate impression, and a single style is a thin basis for any assessment, but still:

Genos:
Ok bass and drums
Guitar riffs are extremely thin and non-informative
Reverb OK
Perspective quite good, but a bit too much stereo

Roland:
Bass indistinct
Drums best; very good, but a little too much in the foreground
Guitar riff different and strange
Reverb different but OK
Perspective quite good, but some sounds are too much in stereo

Pa5X:
Bass OK but a bit indistinct and weak
Drums lousy and limp
Guitar riff different and OK, but too undetailed
Reverb better than the others
Perspective worse than Roland, and even more stereo; very poor panning

Event:
Bass OK
Bad drums with a lack of dynamics
Guitar riff clearly the best of all
Reverb OK
Perspective very good; no stereo effect

So based on this one demo:
Event is best at guitar riffs and perspective
Roland is best at drums
Pa5X is best on reverb (authentic acoustics)
Genos is OK, but not the best at anything.

Which model is best depends on what YOU emphasize.

For me, the feeling of authenticity and the ability to be engaged is always the most important thing of all.

I think the best styles are the ones that work best for you.
If you don’t like them or something about them remix them, edit them.

Out of the box styles need a lot of work, just my opinion.

@musicalmemories

You are absolutely right.

I have found only one exception, and that is the Ketron Audya 76 - almost everything is very well put together; nothing needs to be adjusted.
As a HiFi enthusiast, I have a different attitude to different tastes, as I believe that a Stradivarius should sound like a Stradivarius, and not like some very good violin.

Of all the models I've had, only the Audya 76, Pa700 and DGX-670 fulfill my goals as a HiFi enthusiast.

Pa5X does this only after very extensive edits, and the same applies to Genos1, which is a fantastically good arranger AFTER you've done extensive edits, but terrible before.

Even OASYS, Kronos and Nautilus require extensive edits for most of what is delivered "ready" for use.

He who has edited the styles above has done a lousy job.
