Glossary of Musical Terms - Hugh Wallington - 09-17-2024 Have you ever wondered what those 'musical' terms mean? Here are a few 'fun' ones that are not on the list! A Agitato - state of mind of a keyboard player when making a recording. B Bar - place to go after a long evening entertaining others. C Con Espressione - overpriced coffee. D Double Flat - hopeless situation, unless you have two spare wheels. E Encore - what you have left when you've finished eating your apple. F ff - please go away. G Gavotte - useful device to stop someone playing the bagpipes. H Humdrum - mediocre drummer. I Interval - the time to pop out for an ice cream. J Jazz - music that doesn't know where it's going. K Kettledrum - noise you get from the lid of the kettle when making coffee. L Leading Note - a message passed to another member of the band requesting to meet them afterwards. M Major Scale - getting ready to climb Mount Everest. N Nonet - food was provided before the show, but nobody was hungry.. O Oboe - what you say when your violin plays a 'scratchy' note. P Perfect Pitch - what you need to play a good game of football. Q Quaver - what happens when you've just seen a ghost. R Relative minor - distant cousin. S Semitone - when you're out in the sun and clouds pass over. T Tenor - a tip given at the end of a show. U Unwinding - what you do when you have successfully made your recording. V Vivaldi - Italian composer, nowadays listened to over the telephone. W Windchest - someone who goes on a bit. X Xylophone - the dinosaur of the percussion family. Y Yodelling - Swiss cat singing. Z Zink - an organ stop that runs on a standard battery.
