RESTRICTIONS FOR INDIVIDUALS MAY APPLY
There are some members who only care about themselves, and forget that this is a community where we depend on each other.
These download everything they can, without meeting what should be a common minimum requirement:
- Pressing the Add Thank You button - if this trend of not thanking continues, I will have to introduce restrictions for the individual member this applies to.
So if you want to have the continued possibility to download, you should press the button before you lose the possibility to download.

Maybe a merit system for the most proactive members on the forum would be in order. The more you put in the more you get out.

Exactly, but the problem is that there are no updated plugins for MyBB, which we use - if I install an outdated version, the forum crashes.
The SMF that we used before has all desired plugins, but is extremely unstable and unreliable.
So the only option is to create an account with limited access; which is easy, and manually assign this to members who do not follow recommended guidelines.

They won't be kicked out, but won't be allowed to download anything until they do what's required.
I am now practicing with the hammer, so that I hit relevant targets precisely.
Those to whom this applies will be assigned an account called Limited Member, and will be assigned a description that everyone can see that shows that they have not valued what they have access to.
They can be kicked out if they wish - we have no use for members who do not bother to value our work for the community.

Agreed...That's the best and really the only option.
It's all about common courtesy showing acknowledgement with a little thank you for receiving helpful reply's.
Unfortunately all forums suffer the same way

I would like to believe that anyone who has held a leading position in working life understands this, because this understanding is part of the basic idea of society that in order to get something, you have to give something.
Many believe that the community is built on charity, whereas it is the case that all communities built on charity sooner or later will collapse, as this is self-destructive.

I have now used the hammer and demoted several members to Limited Member status as a result of their unwillingness to show their appreciation.
More will follow if they don't tighten up.
