MIXING AND LEVELS THEORETICAL CREDIBILITY
Most people probably think that if they adjust all instruments to 100, then they all sound the same loud.
This is far from reality.
All instruments have a different dynamic range; even instruments within the same group.
This means that if you put two acoustic guitars into each track and set both to 100, they will play at different levels, precisely because they have a slightly different dynamic range.
If you replace one guitar with an el. guitar, the difference is typically even greater, because an el. guitar uses different effects that can affect and increase the dynamic range.
Everyone probably understands that the difference becomes DRAMATIC if one guitar is replaced with a cathedral organ.
They are both adjusted to 100, but play with very different levels.
The only way to be sure that you are mixing with the right levels is to use a dB meter that shows the actual level, and always let your ears dictate the dB meter what sounds best, as the ears have varying sensitivity to dB depending on the frequency range.
Your ears are the best measuring instrument.

So you have to use your ears more than the numbers or values in front of you?

Yes, even if you have the necessary equipment, experience and the ability to making use of this, the ears are always the most suitable tool.
Everything else is only (necessary) aids, but a reliable dB meter is a must and highly required.
Pa5X's is pretty useless, and I've discovered several weaknesses recently, which I'll cover tomorrow.
