Sample performance - alec in france - 09-13-2021 A test to see what happens with a zip attachment (mp3 not allowed!). This is one of the 'Mayfair' songs I tried recently with vocalist friend Alex. This was the first take! Just piano (on the Genos) and vocal with a touch of reverb. RE: Sample performance - bazt - 09-13-2021 Hi Alec Wow... If that's a quick take, well it all sounded very professional. Thank you for uploading. Kind regards Barrie T  RE: Sample performance - Chello - 09-13-2021 @alec (& Alex) You master the piano like a pianist - I'm not so lucky, but I think like a pianist when I play. Your friend's voice fits very well with this type of music, and very few manage to "hit the tone a little skewed" as she does. Professionally done by both.  RE: Sample performance - alec in france - 09-13-2021 (09-13-2021, 05:32 PM)bazt Wrote: Hi AlecThanks for the kind words Barrie. This was actually the first time we'd tried the song - after a couple of runs through somehow it all came together. It's not often that happens (sadly!). I started on piano when I was 7 (no, Queen Victoria wasn't quite still alive then ;) ) but it's only in the last 8 or 10 years that I've been improvising from fakebook chords on keys. I often wonder where the infill "twiddly bits" come from. Alex sometimes gets annoyed because they're never the same twice. Maybe that should be my motto? You're right - the playing technique on keyboards (and the way we have to think when playing) changes a lot between instruments. I find the 'feel' of playing (say) tenor sax is completely different from piano - and organ is different again, although for all of them it's the same keys we are pressing. I would love to develop a better 'impression' of jazz violin but it's not easy. A violinist has a greater range of notes in easy reach by changing strings. It's very hard to do a big jump on the keyboard smoothly. At first, I figured I would just click on thank you for a casual read. But after I downloaded and listened I felt the need to express to you that you sound exceptionally good! I would slightly lower the reverb on the vocals but other than that - amazing :) RE: Sample performance - Chello - 09-13-2021 @alec Wery well said. You have a foot in my world, because you're talking about "twiddly bits". I've always played this way, and as you say - it's never the same twice. I can play to anything I've never heard, and this is one of the funniest things I know. Improvisation at this level can be a challenge for fellow musicians, but I think that is precisely the point - to challenge them to the same thing. This is how real music is created. I first started with accordion, and at the same time also organ and piano, but accordion became my main instrument until 1998. It has therefore been natural for me to play the keyboard as if this were an accordion. In any case, it is important to know how to play a violin in order to be able to do the same on the keyboard, which by the way is one of the most difficult things to try on a keyboard, as you clearly indicate. |
