To Pan Or Not - musicalmemoriesuk - 04-26-2023 Another topic I’ve spoken about before. Whilst I’ve used panning in keyboard sets. I’ve been thinking if you layer sounds which are dead centre to thicken them up, once you start to pan the sounds which yes create space but does this then thin the sounds again? RE: To Pan Or Not - Chello - 04-26-2023 Panning can result in thinner or thicker sound, depending on how wide the perspective is set. It is rarely good to have too wide a perspective, as this makes the sound thin. It is also important to know that bass-rich sounds take a dominant role, as these are most effective in the center; the lower the frequency, the higher the dominance. An unfortunate placement of the speakers in a corner could produce the opposite result. I have made a rule that says that everything should lie within a maximum of 75% of each side's extreme point of the total perspective - then you keep the thickness. Or put another way: If you imagine a balance knob with -100, 0 (midpoint) and +100, make sure the values never exceed -75 and +75. |
