RE: TEST OF YAMAHA MODX M8 - Chello - 12-15-2025 14 DAYS OF USE - FINAL CONCLUSION: My opinion has changed a lot after 14 days of use: Pros: * The keybed still appears good, and the sound can be very good when the mixing is done right, which is rarely the case. * Those who like to play and create film music have a groundbreaking tool here. * Recording your own performances (audio) is exceptionally easy. * Those who like to use an older tuning e.g. 426 Hz will discover that new details are revealed to a degree never before heard. Cons: * One of the worst layouts I have ever seen - daily use is a nightmare and use of basic functions as well. * The mixing is done in the traditional Yamaha style - it is very variable and often very wrongly done. * The screen is definitely too small, has too poor a resolution, has limited viewing angles and should have been angled or tiltable. * The USB port is on the back panel, and frequent editing of material on the USB stick becomes an unparalleled nightmare, because you have to go behind the synth to take the plug in and out. This CAN be operated from the front with a lot of care and patience, but will probably cause wear on the USB connection. * The design of the back panel is not at all suitable for GIGs for those who use solid cables - I can't use mine, because there is simply no room for them. Yamaha claims to have designed the back panel to make connections easier, but the opposite is true - the MODX M is not at all suitable for GIGs in terms of connectivity. I don't think Yamaha will become famous for this model - it is not good enough for that. It does admittedly provide exceptional value for money - for those who have the boundless patience needed to learn how to use it..! It is designed to replace Montage on GIGs, but I have difficulty believing that users will not have major problems with connections, as there is no space for them, and they are difficult to access. |
